We had booked a tour that had been cancelled. so we took the hop on hop off bus. A great way to see the sites and acquaint oneself with thw city. The last bus is relatively early so plan ..Florence is a small city so with the map that we got with the tour no problem rehotiating way.

We always use the hop on hop off bus when visiting a city as you get a good feel for the layout and can decide what you want to see and when. There are 2 routes running in winter and 3 from April. The blue route lasts one hour and mainly takes in the city centre whilst the red route... More

We have done a lot of these in other cities and this is not the best. Good way to see outskirts of city. Audio is limited...mostly music. When the information does come on it is often out of time with when you drive by the site. Late to start and early (14.30) is hardly 24hrs. Blue line is every hour... More

The start point of these tours is just down from the main railway station (look for a Bata shop and the bus stops are virtually outside). The company run two routes – the Blue Route (Line A) and the Red Route (Line B). Line A takes an hour and the buses go every hour (half hourly at weekends), while the... More

Caught bus opposite train station. Bought tickets from bus company, excellent value for money. Excellent way of getting to know Florence before exploring further on foot. Guide helpful and very knowledgeable. Highly recommend for those who have never been to Florence before.

We bought tickets from a kiosk on the street for €23 each. Got to say well worth the money! Easy way to get around Florence and many sights can be seen. Would definitely recommend.

Florence is a small city and at first we thought we could explore it all without going on this tour. However it turned out to be the most convenient way for us. With the map provided, we could do a lot more than trying to figure things out ourselves specially when travelling with kids. We did the full round then... More

This is probably the worst Hop On Hop Off tour I've been on. I waited at one of the stops for 2 hours with no success. I had to walk to another stop about 15 minutes away before I was able to hop on. One of the lines isn't even a double decker, so it's awkward when you're supposed to... More

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
