This is a must do when in Florence. While the statue of David is a replica it stands on original position. The small balcony on the Palazzo Vecchio is where Hitler and Mussolini stood in WWII and balcony seen in the movie Hannibal. Couple that with statutes, fountains and location to Arno, Ponte Vecchio and more and it is a must for tourists.

This piazza almost defies description. It's the heart of Florence, with the administrative centre in the Palazzo Vecchio and outside the Palazzo, a replica of Michelangelo's David and Donatello's Judith and Holofernes. A few steps away are the doors to the world-famous Uffizi Gallery which is jam-packed with art treasures.
I loved the huge bronze statue of Cosimo I de Medici on his horse. Not far away is a large and ornate fountain ruled by Neptune, commissioned by Cosimo to celebrate the marriage of his son.
Across the Piazza is the Loggia dei Lqnzi - an open-air gallery of sculptures including the sinuous Rape of the Sabine Women by Giambologna and the Medici Lions.
There are several excellent restaurants in the piazza serving lunches, dinners and snacks al fresco with heaters to take the chill off the night air.

Perfect meeting place to gather around. Either going to Uffizi Gallery, or the Palazzo Vecchio, or to one side the Ponte Vecchio, another direction to Duomo, this is where everyone’s at! Hang out and people watch if you’re tired, but just a good central location to hang out

This is our favorite piazza in Florence. Great place to take a break and people watch, or have a drink.

My favorite. This piazza features outdoor sculptures, magnificent architecture, cafes, and a Neptune fountain amongst other things. It gave off the feel of an outdoor museum of sorts (FREE of course!) There are benches where you can give you feet a rest and grab a gelato...great people watching. It's not far from the other piazzas as well. Come at night for stunning blue hour photos.

An excellent place to people watch at the cafes or with a sandwich sitting on the steps in front of the statue gallery.

It goes without saying that anybody visiting Florence should walk through Piazza Della Signoria... when you do, make sure that you go into Palazzo Vecchio for a look around (even without visiting the full museum) and that you take a good look at the statues in the Loggia dei Lanzi.

While in Florence, you may find yourself traversing through here a couple times. Make time to get the great photos. Got lucky and saw a wedding in the square when I went. Another must see and plenty of food places.
