In the event seeing the outdoor copy of David isn't good enough for you, make the trek to the Accademia. You'll be so amazed by the unfinished Michelangelo marble carvings, and the larger than life statue of David. We went in October 2020 and with COVID restrictions, the Gallery was not crowded. That enabled us to sit and revel in the amazing marble-work of David. So much better to see it in person to understand the beauty of the carving than in an art history text book. Just amazing. Apparently even some locals don't realise that the the real status is in the Accademia. GO! you won't regret it. Also some lovely early Renaissance paintings and frescos. I was amazed to see Andrea del Sarto's Cristo in pieta in person. I studied it over 20 years ago, and was so happy to see it in person.…

Very long waiting time and expensive for a short visit. Only the David is the thing to see here. I think that's the way Florence has found to make the most out of their inhereted masterpieces. They put one masterpiece and some other minor stuff in every museum, and they charge you hefty to see each of them. Culture should be more accessible.…
