There is plenty of sun, shade, singing birds and whispering fountains in one of Florence's largest and most beautiful gardens, which are located behind the massive Pitti Palace.

- L_K1509London, United Kingdom1,646 contributionsNice for an hour or twoThis visit was included in the museum pass and included entry to Pitti Palazzo. The area is vast and coming out of Pitti it is steep. The views are good at the top, plenty of benches or areas to sit. The gardens contains lots of walkways, shaded by arched trees and gravel paths. There are many statues throughout the gardens. It’s more of a rustic place than gardens but there are some lovely parts within, for example the pond area. If time short I probably wouldn’t recommend, but good for a hour or two. Just don’t expect Kew Gardens!Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 24 September 2023
- DRaynerCarterton, New Zealand101 contributionsNot worth the costPaid €16 each to obtain prepaid tickets to avoid the queue. The gardens were ok. Nice vistas across Firenze. A lot of the garden was a bit untidy eg the Neptune fountain had weeds growing around and out of statue in the middle of the fountain, some of the paths needed upgrading, there was a lot that had been let go and needed maintenance. All in all a nice walk up and down the hill but I question the cost of the privilege of walking through.Visited September 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 24 September 2023
- TandKYoungRochester, New York116 contributionsNot a flowery type gardenI rate the activity low based on the value for the money and weak guidance inside the gardens. I’ll start by taking the blame for having the wrong expectations to start with. This is not a garden of colorful, flowering plants. It is a park, set on estate grounds that the wealthy owners would walk around in and look over from their huge home. The view of the city was spectacular . The experience could have been better with descriptive signs/ displays, labels on what little flora was present, and a guide map that could be carried, not just the positioned on permanent map boards. While I do appreciate the history and significance of this estate to Florence’s past and culture, €13 a person to climb really steep paths and stairs to look at dried up, untended grape vines was too much.Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 30 September 2023
- Ali921Edinburgh, United Kingdom1,479 contributionsCalm and peacefulOnly come here if you have already visited all the other key attractions. Then this is a nice to come (on a dry day, there is nowhere to hide from rain) and spend some quiet time. We would have preferred some more colour in the gardens but maybe it was just the wrong time of year. It is surprising large and easy to spend a couple of hours meandering.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 26 October 2023
- JulieSheffield, United Kingdom25 contributionsNot worth the pricetag or your timeOkay to see if you like walks in massive parks but I wouldn't go there again. I'd rather go to the piazzale Michelangelo and the gardens next to it again. I mainly went to Boboli gardens see the Buontalenti's Grotto that is mentioned in Dan Brown book but it was quite a disappointment. At the moment you can't even enter the grotto itself, but from looking through the gate it's not really worth it. The statues are not in the best shape, very deteriorated look... The Vassari's corridor is currently under reconstruction so that also spoiled the look. The view from the Gentleman's pavilion was very nice, but the Pavilion itself is an abandoned building with paint faded, shutters closed... I read the other reviews on here and was unsure what to expect. I'm glad I didn't pay the full 'summer' pricetag for this as I don't think it's worth it at all. I got the 18€ cumulative ticket that included Uffizi, Pitti palace and these gardens so was ok (this is the winter price for admission)Visited November 2023Travelled soloWritten 25 November 2023
- David AWarboys, United Kingdom190 contributionsVast but certainly not a spring garden.Be prepared to walk up and down hill as these gardens are vast and from leaving the palace the walking to the top end of the garden is all up hill. Most of the gardens are scrubs and evergreens, very little floral or colour other than shades of green. Whilst I appreciate its mid March and has been wet for such a long time it needs so much tidying with weeds in most beds. Grass needs tending and pathways are quite muddy in places. Worth a climb to the top if nothing else for some of the views which are beautiful. I imagine in the summer when the warmth of the day is more inviting you could spend hours reading a good novel, eating a picnic and watching the world walk by.. mental note for me to come back hear in July or AugustVisited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 19 March 2024
- Laura PMarietta, Georgia128 contributionsView of the city is breathtaking! The views of the city are worth the climb. Wear comfortable hiking boots and take water with you. Don't expect many flowers. The garden is about sculptures and views. I enjoyed seeing the many locals sketching the sculptures and relaxing in the meadows.Visited April 2024Travelled soloWritten 12 April 2024
- Keith LTaunton, United Kingdom209 contributionsLarge garden in city locationThe garden which covers a large area can be accessed through Priti Palace without the need to buy a palace ticket. Plenty of steps. Several of the paths are steep. Plenty of formal gardens with fountains and statues. Very few flower beds to add colour. Best view of Florence is from the Prince's villa.Visited April 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 29 April 2024
- VadimMurmansk, Russia34,571 contributionsA slightly neglected UNESCO World Heritage Site.Boboli Gardens is the easiest way to visit the UNESCO site "Medici Villas and Gardens". 14 villas and gardens are scattered throughout Tuscany up to and including Carrara, Livorno and Pisa. By the time you get there, you've already arrived in Florence... In addition, it is the greenest place in Florence, which has a shortage of public parks. Gardens began to be laid out under Eleanor of Toledo in 1549 after the Medici bought the Pitti Palace. In 1766, the gardens were opened to all comers. Near the palace, the garden looks like Schoenbrunn and Versailles. The boxwood hedge is trimmed in a pattern of regular geometric shapes. The amphitheater, built by the father and son of Parigi for concert performances, looks at the palace. For greater significance, an Egyptian obelisk and a fountain from the Roman baths of Caracalla were erected in the center. The following Medici dukes invited the best landscape architects Buontalenti, Ammannati and Tribolo to decorate the garden. They did everything elegantly, but there was no single plan, so now the Boboli Gardens are an eclectic collection of fountains, trees, grottoes of the botanical garden and countless meaningfully unrelated statues. I looked at the fountain of Neptune and the fountain of the Ocean on the island of Isolotto. Isolotto, like the amphitheater, was created by the father and son of Parigi in the XVII century. In the center of the island there is the fountain "Ocean" by Giambologna, author of "The Abduction of the Sabines" in the Lanzi loggia. In the center of the composition, Neptune is depicted surrounded by three river gods representing the Nile, Ganges and Euphrates. Since 1811, the original statue of Neptune by Giambologna was sent to the Bargello Museum, and it was replaced by a copy by Raffaello Romanelli. Due to the lack of running water, the fountain bloomed. Combined with the sculptures of harpies around the perimeter, this creates a sense of decadence. In addition, you can visit the Cavalier Garden, the grotto of Buontalenti and drink coffee in the Coffee House with views of the beautiful Florence. Along the way, looking at numerous old and modern statues. For example, Igor Mitorai, so beloved by Italians. The ticket can be purchased separately for 10 euros, or together with the Pitti Galleries for 22.Visited May 2023Travelled soloWritten 2 May 2024
- Jack12 contributionsMassive green paradiseSo happy I did the Giardino on a whim - it was the best thing I did in Florence. If you only have a couple of days and you're there in summer, skip the museums and come here instead. The views at the top are crazy. You have a 180° over the city skyline, which is mad enough, but then you duck into a little manicured hedge garden with a 180° over the rolling hills beyond Florence. Which is truly breathtaking. I'd say you need two hours here, or more if you've brought a book or food with you. Make sure you have water. And relax in this hidden little (massive) green paradise.Visited May 2024Travelled soloWritten 28 May 2024

The best bargain in Florence is the 3 day pass which gets you into the Uffizi, the Pitti Palace, the Pietra Dura Museum.....and the Boboli Gardens.
On a sunny day, these are a juge and magical place to walk and city, with plenty of splendid views. Make sure you consult the garden maps, as there is aplenty to see and the gardens are more extensive than you might think. I enjoyed the porcelain museum at the top.

Nice walk in the green on a warm day, however almost all of the areas with flowers were blocked off for unknown reason. Half the walk paths as well and in general it is not a botanic garden or similar. If you like statues of different kind from Renaissance to modern then yes might be worth it. If you thinking a nice perfectly taken care of garden with beautiful flowers and perfect lawns, no no, far from.
The big fountain at the bottom of the garden had lots of lemon trees and flowers around it, but it was blocked so you can't go in there. The lemon garden... same story, blocked. All in all you pay full admission but most gates and walk paths been closed so I would not consider going back. Not att all what I was expecting when paying an admission. There are plenty more beautiful places to see in this amazing city

This was our second time in Boboli gardens. We once visited in summer and we didn’t see all of it so we came back years later. I have a feeling it gave a nicer impression when we saw it for the first time, but this time we payed more attention and were surprised how uninteresting it was. It’s huge and there are some statues at the entrances of the paths. The most fascinating sculpture though is the only modern one in the garden (I’m attaching the photos). The rest is not very well kept, the grass is miserable and many areas are partially closed for works. Island Basin is underwhelming because of that. There was a dead turtle on the surface of the water. So sad. The exit by that fountain that is indicated on the map was closed without a warning (and trust me - that was a long way to get there to find out). Moreover, the fee to enter Boboli Gardens was €6 before March and they even raised it twice. For what?!

Giving it a one is being generous. The "Gardens" in any other town would be a nasty public park you wouldn't recommend your friends walk through. But here they rudely take 10 euro per person for the insult. Hedges un-trimmed, paths in need of repair, not a flower in sight, fountains broken or green, signage that makes no sense and Artwork you could buy at a roadside garden center.
I don't know what it looked like in its prime but this is not worth your time or money today.

First tip is to buy a combo ticket with the Uffizi and Pitti Palace that allows you to visit all three for 38 euro versus 46 euro when all purchased separately or 42 euro if you purchase Uffizi separate from the Pitti Palace/Boboli Gardens combo ticket. (We used the official Uffizi Gallery website.)
We spent over three hours walking around the gardens, getting there when it first opened so it was not crowded. (We were also looking for birds, so most people probably would not spend quite as long there. We did find close to 20 different species, which is good for the time of year.)
The gardens are extensive and reminded me just a little of the gardens in Versailles, though probably not as well maintained. Though there are not a lot of actual flowers, it offers vast numbers of trees and shrubs along with some fountains and interesting sculptures. From the top of the hill, there are some magnificent views. There were a number of benches where you can sit and relax, and there's some shade here to be found as well. We found this a very nice respite from the crowded streets of Florence. There was some construction going on, which interrupted the quiet. But we still enjoyed ourselves there all morning.

What a waste of time and money. It was so brown and uncared for, not a single flower, several places closed off. Not worth the price. They should have offered us the €11/ticket to enter, and ID still reject it knowing how it is. You’re paying to hike steep hills and look and dead grass and see areas closed off to the public. Maybe in the spring it’d be nice if it has green grass. Again, NOT WORTH THE MONEY

The name ‘Boboli Gardens’ is deceiving. This attraction is really just a really large (& expensive) park, and consists of mainly grass, trees, and a few statues in between. No flowers (all dead) or interesting arrangements. The place appears unkept with weeds growing out of what maybe used to be garden patches once upon a time. The fountain water was dirty and stagnant.
It’s no my worth your money, time, or effort (it takes a bit of effort to walk around, as there are a few uphill paths). My recommendation would be to skip this.

We entered from the Pritti Palace and enjoyed exploring this very large garden area. You get good views of Florence from the upper areas and there are fountains, grottoes, walkways, a large pond and lots of statues. It’s a good place to chill after the business of the city streets. It isn’t too manicured and some of the statues could do with cleaning.

I am not sure why the other reviewers are so negative. I had a wonderful time spending a couple hours wandering around the large gardens. It was very relaxing, especially after the overload walking through the art gallery at the Palazzo Pitti. The views of the city and countryside were amazing. I even didn't have a problem finding the exit when I was ready to leave as some reviewers claim. The garden appeared watered and green. Worth a couple hour visit.
