We arrived and were clearly the first visitors they had the day. The teenager in charge of ticketing asked us to enter via the courtyard as he needed to switch the lights on inside the building. There was no one else so it made for a great experience. The views over the valley from the fort are also breathtaking. They... More

I arrived just after 10 to find the Fortezza closed, despite the advertised opening time of 10. Luckily for me, the two maintenance men saw me and let me in and proceeded to give me a private tour of the entire Fortezza! When the totally uninterested ticket guy arrived half an hour late, the maintenance men told him in no... More

Spectacular 360 view from the battlements. The exhibitions were really interesting. Its a climb worth making, take water with you, you can replenish at the wee auto-shop at Santa Margherita

Sitting above Cortona this structure dominates and has tremendous views across the town and the surrounding plains. There is almost no explanation however of how the fort functioned or how is was built. We understand that at some time it was derelict. Worth the visit for the views alone and hopefully in time more interpretative information will be made available.

Do walk up from the town if you can manage to do so. The views from the fort are certainly worth the effort as the town, the valley, the lake and the distant hills are all spread out below you. I should have liked a description of the history of the fort rather than the photographic collection of Tuscan towns... More

This old fortress has best views over the Tuscan hillscapes being at the top of the mountain above Cortona. The many reviewers saying it is hard to reach may not realise there is ample parking at the church of Santa Margerita and even spaces next to the entrance 100 meters up the path. They were currently setting up for an... More

It is quite a hike through town to the very top where the fort is located, but very rewarding. I recommend winding your way through the side streets and visiting the various churches and enjoying the local culture. You will eventually make your way to the top. If you try to follow the wall up the South east side, you... More

We climbed the streets of Cortona to reach this landmark. It was well worth the effort but took me a few days to recover. The view is spectacular.

With swords in hand, our boys loved wandering through the fortress and along the top walls. The views are incredible, totally worth the hike!
