You will find cafés around where you can have some food or a dolce and watch the people walk by. Great place to rest and take in life and visitors in Ortigia.Visited November 2022Travelled with friendsWritten 7 October 2023
- PeteFredericksburg, Virginia1,201 contributionsBeautiful fountainContrary to the Temple of Diana in Merida, Spain, which is incorrectly named and is The Temple of Augustus, this fountain clearly shows a woman. I think there is no doubt about it’s nomenclature. Since the internet indicates it was built in 1907, it’s safe to assume that this Fountain was never intended for purposes of drinking water, etc. it’s purpose is for beautification.Visited November 2023Travelled soloWritten 1 November 2023
- Seeking True QualityEurope4,803 contributionsA lavish fountainThis huge, monumental fountain on the Piazza Archimede is from 1907. The central figure is the goddess Diana, the Roman equivalent of Arthemis, the protector of the ancient Greek island Ortygia. She is surrounded by other mythical figures: Arethusa and Alpheus, whose myth is connected to Ortygia and four Tritons riding four sea monsters. It is always pleasing to see that there are those willing to invest in a beautiful fountain!Visited May 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 28 April 2024

On a hot day you can sit by it and enjoy the lower temp there as the water cools the air. Great spot to sit a while and people watch. Couple of bars and restaurants close by.Visited July 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 5 July 2024

We stumbled across this beautiful and stunning fountain set amidst the heart of the old city. It is a very recent addition compared to the older buildings surrounding this piazza. We could not resist a cheeky selfie here as we were so taken with this amazing fountain

It’s located in the centre of Ortigia, in the middle of the Piazza Archiméde. It’s a nice fountain in honor of Artemis (or Diana), the goddess of the hunt. We started our walk here. This square is very popular, lots of tourists take photos with Diana.

Spectacular fountain with its dominant statue being that of Goddess Diana, the Goddess of Hunt, standing tall and confident. The fountain figures tell a complicated story, likely not evident to over 95% of sightseers. Part of the legend is that of the nymph, who is being pursued by the River god, asks Goddess Diana for help. It is most beautiful and impressively magical at night when lit up in colourful lights.

On our guided tour we also saw this interesting fountain. The Fountain of Diana (Fontana di Diana) is in the center of Piazza Archimede in Syracuse on the east coast of Sicily. It is also known as the Fountain of Artemis, as the original Greek name for the Roman goddess Diana was Artemis. The fountain was created by Giulio Moschetti in 1907 using reinforced concrete. The fountain includes a triton and a mermaid with a child on her lap riding sea monsters, and also includes Arethusa and Alpheus (Diana is helping Arethusa to escape unwanted attention from Alpheus, who fell in love with her after seeing her bathing nude in a stream).

Very nice place in Ortigia. Nice scuptures, nice lighting. Lovely feeling of plenty of space and calm and quit, in the middle of a busy old town with very narrow streets.

Walking around Ortigia you will definitely come across many monuments and landmarks. One of which is the Fountain of Diana. Worth the effort and taking some photos.
