This site has not been restored as some but still is very captivating. The ruins have been overrun by amazing fields of flowers and the subterranean tunnels are very interesting. It has an incredible feel about it.Certainly worth the visit for an hour or so.

Our guidebook suggested this place for the views, and that is undoubtedly the case, particularly for those interested in views of petrochemical plants. The ruins themselves are interesting to walk around, but without a guidebook or some previous preparation, much of the importance of the...More

I heard about the site from my host, otherwise I would have missed it and this was my third trip to Siricusa. The castle is in serious need of promotion. Spend some time researching ancient Greek fortifications as the few minutes of research will make...More

We had a hire car and a sat-nav, so we didn't find the site hard to find, and the man in the ticket office gave us an English map with some basic details of the castle. With the map, the site was fairly easy to...More

Out-of-the-way (near Belvedere), and not in most popular guides, but well worth the trip. We went on a Saturday in October, and were the only people there. Great views, great history. Amazing what ancient stoneworkers could do. As usual, only time fortress was challenged, it...More

A very interesting ruin of maybe the largest ancient greek fortress in the world. You van walk in the ancient subterranean galeries.

Finding such extensive remains of a 4th century BC castle is really quite rare. Add to this the fact that Thucydides actually described the heights of Epipolai where the castle now sits adds to the magic. The views you will see down to Syracuse and...More
