Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Not really special until you read on your guide the significance of this gate.
Sicily is full of gates: Catania Gate and Messina Gate in Taormina, Trapani Gate in Errice, and many many more.
So at first this might be just another gate.
But actually it is very old and a remaining of the old city of Ortigia.
So when you'll pass under it, stop for a moment and read about it.

Tucked away in a tiny alley........beautiful stone vaulted restaurant. Full silver service, white starched table cloths.
This is only a partial review of the food, because I decided to eat only AntiPasta....... between 2 we had 6 dishes served one after the other, with a perfect €35 bottle of Sicilian white wine. We were in heaven over the dishes and the very helpful service of Carlo the Matre D. This is probably the best food I have eaten in Sicily and I have been a few times. Cant leave a tip on the CC and had no cash........ so will go back in a few days and try the main courses and take some cash for a tip.

The only survivor of the once-fortified city access gates during the Spanish domination, fifteenth-century origins but current appearance due to the changes made in the sixteenth century.
Very beautiful is the decoration that frames the tombstone above the portal with the date of construction engraved.
When I read negative reviews for monuments so rich in history, my arms really fall, can there be so many ignorant people around? Fortunately, in a hundred years they will no longer be around to write stupid reviews, while this door will still be here to make a fine show of itself.

This is a gate in the 15th century wall that once circled the old city on Ortigia Island during the Spanish Period. You will pass through it as you enter. Most of the wall is gone, but this opening remains.

One of the last, if not the last, 'Porta' door from a wall that used to surround the city centuries ago.

Really good Italian restaurants in this area, plus the marina with fancy boats.

The port gate gives an impression of what the walled city of Ortigia would have been like over many centuries. Not much to see now.

Like most old cities they had gates and this is the sole surviving one to the island. Apart from the history not much to see.

Small entrance gate to Ortigia, still well preserved. Part of the ancient walls are also visible. The only drawback is that cars are allowed to pass through.
