Attached to the church stands a slender quadrangular building with well-squared blocks: the 12th century civic tower is part of the old system communication; built by the University of Palermo to defend the “Cassaro Walls", it was not part of the structures of the church and as you can see was released and isolated.

The tower is opened for visit on Tuesdays and Saturday and for only 3 euros a guide will show you Palermo from a beautiful vantage point. Reservation not needed in these timeframes. A local group called Terradamare is taking care of the visits and can...More

I suspect this is only regularly open on Saturday mornings. Run by teenage volunteers, a church group presumably, who give you a commentary in broken English, much better than my Italian. Worth the steep narrow climb to see Palermo from above.

Not only the view from the tower is great, Torre di San Nicolo' is also cheap (only 2 or 3 euros) and even if it was closed, the guy who also works as tour guide opened the tower only for us to visit it, despite...More

A bit of a walk up the stairs but well worth the effort to see a a more positive perspective of Palermo. The history of the tower is interesting but you come for the view and the breeze.

Many steps in cramps quarters, but very much worth the exercise for the 360 degree view of Palermo. A very picture worthy experience!

A late addition to the building, this tower was designed to be part of the communication network of bells to help alert the city's denizens to defensive requirements. It is well worth the climb to observe magnificent Palermo from an excellent viewpoint. Set the camera...More

We had a friendly guide and climbing to the top of this small tower was a fine way of enjoying a good view of this beautiful city.
