Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This plaza, only a short walk from Quattro Canti, holds three churches. They are architecturally different, but all are still beautiful.

All are historically significant. Allow 60 to 90 minutes if you plan to visit all three.

The nice thing about this ornate little square is that it has 3 churches in the one small space (two of them are World Heritage Sites). This makes sight-seeing very easy.
San Cataldo (1154) is the smallest and plainest church with the distinctive 3 pinky-red domes. It was covered in scaffolding when we were there in February.
Right next to it is the church of Martorana (1143) which has an unusual blend of Norman and Arabic architecture, striking mosaics and a bell tower.
With limited time, we had to decide which one of the churches to go into. We chose Santa Caterina, mainly because we could also see the convent and nuns’ bakery (which is still making biscuits and cakes).
NEARBY: Piazza Bellini is connected by a narrow passageway to Piazza Pretoria and the wonderfully named Fountain of Shame. It is only another 2 minutes further on to Quattro Canti.

UNESCO considered 7 sites in Palermo worthy of inclusion in the world heritage list. Tourists rarely reach two: Ziza Palace and Admiral's bridge. The three sites the Royal Palace and Palatine Chapel, Church of San Giovanni degli Eremiti, and Palermo Cathedral are close to each other. But two objects are at arm's length: the Church of Santa Maria Dell'ammiraglio; the Church of San Cataldo. That's why people are swarming in Piazza Bellini. And then there is the Church of Santa Caterina with its Baroque splendor. Three times Palermo and Sicily as a whole - under the rule of Byzantium, Arabs and Aragonese.

Loved this piazza, with its ancient Arab and Norman buildings, just wished we'd had more time to explore properly.Felt like the real Sicily.Dripping with atmosphere and with a peeling , ancient beauty. For me, it knocks spots off some of the Baroque piazzas we saw in eastern Sicily.

The Piazza Bellini is adjacent to La Fontana di Vergogna [The fountain of Shame] and the Piazza Pretoria. There are several churches nearby as well- Santa Maria, San Cataldo, Santa Catarina and the Teatro Bellini which has been refurbished into modern apartments. La Matorana is also nearby. It is beautiful by day as well as at night. Worth a visit if for no other reason but to walk thru the area.

This Plaza does not have something particular about it, apart from the simple fact that several buildings around it are essential attractions.

This piazza is located near Piazza Pretoria and surrounded by some of the oldest most important and historic buildings in the city. You can see the churches of Santa Maria dell'Ammiraglio (1143) , San Cataldo (1154) and Santa Caterina (1566), and the Teatro Bellini (1726). The Teatro Bellini has had a chequered history and is now converted into modern apartments that are alongside the remains of walls dating to the Punic era. Easily one of the most historic locations in Palermo.

This piazza is behind Chiesa Catarina and includes La Martorana and Chiesa San Cataldo, all of which are from very different schools of design.

This is a very nice square, close to some main attraction as quarto canti and fontana della vergogna, but also important churches.

The night I went to piazza Bellini for dinner, there was a busker playing the guitar and there was magic in the air. It was the most charming little square I have ever seen. The atmosphere was so wonderful, it is my dearest memory from my trip to Palermo.
