Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

It's a must-visit place:
It's worth it for the beauty of the square, the church, the internal cloister.
Furthermore, visiting the part dedicated to Judge Falcone is truly exciting.
Entrance to the church is free, while there is a fee for the cloister.

A bit like the pantheon of Palermo, many personalities are buried there, including Judge Falcone, his tombstone is covered with words from grateful Palermo residents. Very moving!
Remarkable baroque-style chapels to also appreciate

After lunch, as we were returning to the hotel, on Via Roma we once again saw the church we saw several times from our bus: it has a statue on a high column in front of it. We decided to give them a brief visit.
The column turned out to be the Column of Immaculate Conception designed in 1724 by Tommaso Napoli, a friar of the Dominican Order, engineer and mathematician.
The large baroque church is dedicated to Saint Domenic. Despite being late in the afternoon it was full of light.

This is the second most important church in Palermo after the cathedral and contains the tombs of many important Sicilian politicians, painters and poets. Although there has been a church and monastery here since the C13th, the present building is C16th, when the old building became too small. Like the Cathedral, the outside is more impressive than the inside with its double pillars and statues.

I found the inside a bit stark and even on a bright sunny day it felt dark.

The church is free to enter, but there is a charge to visit the cloisters.

The San Domenico Basilica is located in Piazza San Domenico, off Via Roma. I originally looked out for it as a landmark for locating the adjacent Vucciria Market and was unprepared for how amazing the architecture was. The outer appearance has been changed several times over the last few hundred years and the frontage is now Baroque with twin belltowers and flanked with pillars and statues.
Stepping inside, I was again amazed as the interior was so much larger than I had expected. A lot of the interior in the main Section is unadorned, which highlights the beautiful architecture. The Chapels are a complete contrast, and are beautifully ornate, particularly the Chapel dedicated to the Oneto di Sperlinga family with it's marble decorations and a Statue of St Joseph.
I'm not usually very interested in Churches but the beautiful exterior architecture drew me in!
San Domenico is only open in the mornings.

This church is on one of the main roads that run through the city centre, so we had passed it a number of times before we went in.

My favourite part of it was being able to pay my respects to Mr Falcone, who from all I have read about him was an amazing man.

This is another church in Palermo city, one made of marble and impressive by itself in terms of work and details.
