Very pretty fountain

Lots of statues around a large fountain in a square. Well worth the walk to have a look. Nothing else to say really.

Off the Via Maqueda, this piazza is beautiful and the centerpiece of an interesting area. Go at night too as it is gorgeous lit up. Nice coffee shop down the alley behind the pizza. Great spot to linger and people watch.

Piazza Pretoria got nicknamed Piazza della Vergogna (the square of shame) because of the nude sculptures that were put right in front of the church. A Belgian teacher told her pupils it was because the fountain turned out to be too expensive. Maybe, but it's not the main reason. We were told this by the Polizia Municipale standing in front... We were very lucky to be here immediately following a heavy rain shower. There was no one at the site and a great opportunity for photos. Loved all the details especially all the animal spouts. Have seen a lot of fountains in our travels but this is one of our favourites because it is so interesting from so many angles.... More

This fountain is notorious...the nuns once cut off the noses of the nude statues in protest of their nudity. The fountain has since been restored and for the first time since i first saw this fountain 10 years ago you can now walk on the fountain instead of just seeing it on the periphery behind a fence. This gives you... More

This fountain was purchased sight-unseen by the city of Palermo. When it arrived, it was found to be larger than anticipated, and the city fathers had to look for a space big enough in which to set it up. This turned out to be a Piazza in front of two convents, so it must be supposed that the good sisters... More

Nicknamed the fountain of shame because of the nudity of the statues. In the very heart of Palermo with beautiful buildings all around.

The people of Palermo are very proud of their many fountains and stately squares and rightly so. A lovely square to relax in for a few moments while passing through.

Doesn't matter ow many time one can go around this fountain - every time it is different and charming and it is impossible to finish watching it and get familiar with all the images and scenes. The history of not only sculpture and fountain making can be seen but also a History of peoples tastes: it was nicknamed the Fountain... More
