Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Stazione di Palermo Centrale is in the centre of the city at the southern edge of Piazza Giulio Cesare. The station frontage is very impressive and the style is in keeping with the surrounding buildings in the piazza. I used the station a number of times and thought there was a good range of facilities, there were social distancing measures in place which were adhered to by the majority of passengers. The platform area was quite leafy and not claustrophobic like some stations. It is a user-friendly station and was ideal for travelling in and around the Palermo area.

For a major station in a major station, this is a very basic station. Long queues for tickets, even at the quietest of times, and only a couple of machines as an alternative. To be fair, when we asked for help from the guy at information desk, he was extremely helpful - albeit I spoke to him entirely in Italian. There seem to be no timetables, either to hand out or on display, few facilities - even the toilet costs €1. Best to look for info on the internet and get there in time to buy tickets on the machines, which work in multiple languages.

As others have mentioned, the station is busy. You'd imagine a busy place may have some things like benches, or restrooms, but that's not the case here. Small dining area for the McDonald's is about all the seating available, and restrooms are pay only (and the men's was closed when I attempted to use).
It's also 90% open air, so it's going to be hot and humid. Don't expect to go early after checking out of your hotel to relax in some AC before your departure. You're gonna sweat!
Police around, which adds safety, but they seemed more interested in stopping people from sitting against the far sides of the walls than the people smoking everywhere or riding scooters inside the station. Cultural differences aside, it was still a place I didn't want to spend the 3 hours I did.
Best aspect is it's easy enough to figure out. No real signage, but it's a tiny station to walk around.

Now you are in Southern Italy.
A beautiful Neo-classic building containing a very functional Train station. But most facilities are available, even a Chapel.
When we took atrain to Cephalu, we had to get onto another train only to be told to get back on the first one anyway- complete chaos- but fun, if you are not old!
Lots of buses start from here too- even to the airport.

Arrived from PMO airport on shuttle bus to be confronted by very angry and persistent men who will try to persuade tourists into taking a local taxi. Fortunately, our property landlord met us in the nick of time. As a regular visitor to Italy over the years, and no shrinking violet either, even I was surprised by this behaviour. Very important point to consider when some UK flights arrive after darkness has fallen. Please be very careful around this area.

As many stations in this world this place is very crowded, bad smelling and confusing. The machines are working some times so you don't need to stay on the queued to buy a ticket.

The smell is nauseating everywhere, I am disappointed in this place by its dirt, abandonment and drugged people wandering like zombies. I always travel alone, but luckily on this trip I'm with my family... but by nightfall I'd be inside the apartment.

I love Palermo and I also loved the station, very beautiful and well-kept.
I went to the bar, the bathrooms were quite clean (it was 7 in the morning).

The only station I've ever seen where there is nothing other than a McDonald's, a bar and 1 bathroom (for a fee).
