Boy, this Piazza is certainly busy enough, with the Cathedral, the Clock and what is a Piazza in Italy without a great work of art as the Fountain of Orion is? Just all fits together very nicely! Great place to take pictures, have a rest in the shade, or you may be lucky and the Cathedral will be open. Enjoy!

It is always wonderful see the art and creativity in a fountain. And having this fountain so close to the Astronomical Clock was an added bonus. You must see the clock and the fountain in the square.

You cannot miss this fountain, as it's by the Duomo and the Bell tower on the main Duomo Sq. It was built in 16 cent to celebrate the opening of the city's aqueduct. It's another example of marvelous highly detailed fountains. Unfortunately, an iron fence around it spoils the view.

In 1547 a decree of the Senate of Messina gave the sculptor Giovanni Angelo Montorsoli (Montorsoli, 1507 - Florence, 1563), the task of erecting a monumental fountain in Piazza del Duomo, to celebrate the completion of the aqueduct of Camaro. This fountain is right near the duomo so you should definitely stop if you see the duomo. Beautiful fountain. The fountain wasn't running when we were on- wish it was!

A beautiful piece of sculpture worth looking at if you are in the square waiting for the tower performance.
