Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Visited this museum in Catania, the visit included a trip to the baths under St Agatha Church.
Interesting place with a lot of local history spread over four floors.

Do try to get to the roof top if its open it gives a great view down on the main square and across the city.

The Museum is very interesting for those visiting the city, it holds and shows the main objects related to Sant'Agata that is one of the major elements to know if you are visiting Catania and want to understand its traditions.

Several item on show are unique and very well preserved and the stuff there is very professional and kind

The visit is very well worth a couple of hours listening to all the stories and legends around the city and Agata

When you are done with the museum you may want to take the tour of the underground Terme Achillane

But you do not have to miss the visit to the terrace of the museum ... the view from there is stunning overlooking the port, the cathedral and the whole city with the Etna volcano in the background

The Diocesan Museum houses artworks and furnishings from Cathedral and other churches in the city and Diocese. Unless you are particularly interested in liturgical silverware, reliquaries, sculptures of saints, devotional paintings, ceremonial robes and vestments, and other ecclesiastical paraphernalia, I’d give the museum a miss and opt for a tour of the Achillean baths. Tickets are on sale in the museum.

One of Catania’s most significant Roman monuments, the remains of this once extensive complex are completely underground, beneath the Cathedral itself. Access to the baths (guided visits only) is via a flight of steps on the right side of the Cathedral’s facade which lead down to a small door. A damp passageway leads to a central chamber with vaulted ceilings supported by four pillars. There are fragments of marble and mosaic in the floor and a small section of the original stucco wall decoration, depicting cupids and vines, also survives. A series of water channels, fed by the Amenano, can also be seen. Unfortunately you are not allowed to photograph this atmospheric reminder of an ancient way of life.

* The five stars are for the baths, not for the museum

I went to this museum because I read they had a collection of the smaller floats used during the Saint Agatha procession held each February, but I only found one. The other items spread over five floors were interesting, but sparse. I would visit if you have time available.

This should really be a last resort option if the weather's crappy and you've seen everything else already.
First and foremost: it is Italian-only and Google Translate isn't up to the job.

The collection consists of a seemingly never-ending stream of religious decorative items and paintings. The rooftop-view is so-so compared to the Duomo view (which is €2!). If it's monday when the Duomo is closed, this is your only reason to go in here. It's included in the €7 admission but also available separately for €3!! So IF it's Monday, save €4 by just going to the rooftop.

Several pieces - mainly coming from churches - are kept in the Museo Diocesano.
There are sacred furnishings and vestments, altars, monstrances and reliquaries, paintings, ancient coins, and Saint Agatha's "fercolo" (a structure that is used to carry simulacra of the Saint in procession - it takes its name from the Latin term fercŭlum, which identified a similar tool used in antiquity to transport the images of the gods).

The visit starts on the fourth floor, and continues to the lower floors.

There are some interesting pieces on display, but in some halls it's rather dark; in others there are posters or other objects in front of the art pieces. Most of explanations - where present - are in Italian only.

The museum holds a collection of religious art, some beautiful furniture, coins, and a collection of silver and gold crosses and sculpture.

The views from the terrace were very nice.

We really enjoyed this visit as we are practising Catholics but to be honest I don't really think it would be of interest to a non religious person. The museum is full of beautiful Monstrances, Vestments, Crucifixes etc.

There are eight halls with paintings, sculptures and memorabilia from "dead" clergymen. Do not come to Catania only to see it.
