Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

There are many churches in Cagliari and we explored lots of them!
This one, the Chiesa di Sant'Efisio, in the old Stampace area of the city, had a lot of detail inside to enjoy.
It dates back to 430 AD and should be on your list of places to visit when wandering in Cagliari.

This church has so much importance for the original inhabitants of the capital of Sardinia. It is from here that the Island's major feast on 1st May starts from. Since 366 years ago and even during the WW2 bombings.

We had been told about the most famous saint in the area. The interior of the church holds a carriage for transporting the saint's effigy which is well worth seeing

Visit to the church and in the afternoon to the prisons of S. Efisio where he was imprisoned and tortured to make him withdraw from his conversion to Catholicism. On May 4, 2024, with the good guide Natalia, we entered the church and met a Lord who was very generous with explanations, a volunteer, who documented us further. In the Stampace district the veneration is deeply felt, the folklore procession (which began on May 1st) is participated in by all of Sardinia and beyond, it is a parade along the streets with carts pulled by oxen decorated with lace, flowers, ribbons, knights and figures wear traditional clothes. Upon the saint's return to church on May 4th, he is accompanied by a prayer procession with torchlight procession. In life, St. Efisio was an officer of the Roman army who converted because he had received a divine signal: a shining cross in the sky, his intercession with the Divine spirit stopped the plague and protected the city of Cagliari (he died as a beheaded martyr).

It was my intention to visit it, but it was closed... out there, in the internal courtyard, leaning on the railing there was a gentleman to whom I asked the opening hours and he was nothing short of courteous in letting me sit inside anyway, despite the this period was closed. But it didn't end there, he gave me a suuuper explanation, a super guided tour telling me in detail the story of Sant'Efisio, protector of the province of Cagliari, of the processions linked to him and much more. The gentleman who welcomed me is a member of the Brotherhood that runs the Church. It was certainly lucky to find him there, but his availability, his kindness and above all his love in telling me everything were a real gift. Thank you very much, if only all guides were like this: in love with what they tell! Compliments!!
