Beautiful botanical garden in the city.
Feb. 2020
Orto Botanico is a lovely, cool botanical garden in the city of Cagliari. It is landscaped down the hillside, and offers many different planting areas from giant pine trees to medicinal plants. There are views of the Roman Amphitheatre at the back of the garden, and you can also walk inside the giant Roman Cisterns dug into the mountainside, at the back of the site. It was lovely a quiet when we went off-peak, and very calm and relaxing. Take a picnic, as there was no cafe open inside, although they allow you to leave and return the same day to go to an outside cafe. They also allow you to scan a Q code on you mobile as a map of the site.

Disappointing
Sep. 2019
We visited the botanical gardens towards the end of September and were disappointed. The entrance fee was 4 euros each, which we thought was quite expensive for what we viewed and much of the gardens needed some TLC. We have seen many far better gardens elsewhere in the world and they have been free of charge.
We sadly missed the Roman Cistern, which is accessed via tunnels.
A peaceful area but not many seats, there is no cafe, so you can't get food or drink.

Don't miss to visit it - wonderful oase among the old houses. There is also very poor information to find the place!

Nice and Fresh
Oct. 2019
The botanical garden was a pleasant surprise. Many various trees a collection of cactuses, grotto, water cistern (romanian epoch) and a "romanian cave" which is more a subtropical place with water vaporized all around making the place fresh in hot season. Benches with small self-service bookstores (you give and take books freely) to read on the spot. Water fountains, greenhouses. Cozy and quiet.

Wonderful Oasis
Oct. 2019
Central in the town but an oasis of green and shade in the heat. Beautiful and unusual plants - the trees are fantastic. Don't miss the Australian area - massive trees and plants kept moist by a gentle mist spray - so peaceful and evocative.

Expensive entrance fee
Sep. 2019
We were disappointed in the botanical gardens in Cagliari. The entrance fee was 4 euros each, which we though was quite a lot. It was not worth it for the greenery. Very ordinary gardens. We have seen many far better gardens elsewhere in the world - and usually they have been free of entrance fees!
The highlight was the Roman Cistern, which is accessed via tunnels. Quite impressive.
A peaceful area to spend some time, but not at that price.
There is no cafe, so you can't get food or drink. There are toilets.

Ticket office staff are dreadful
Sep. 2019 • Couples
I don’t really mind paying to see the gardens but if you want me to pay you should at least keep change in your cash box and be nice to your clients.

The staff were rude and sarcastic because I didn’t have the exact money they wanted.

I should have left at that point because it spoiled my visit.

A nice escape from the busy city, a short walk from the main area. Would be nice if there was a coffee shop inside.

Interesting gardens with amazing Roman cistern
Jun. 2019 • Couples
The Orto Botanico is ideal for a stroll round to relax. There are many unusual species on display and the trunk/root systems of some of the trees defy gravity ! The only slight criticism is that the place lacked the colour of some gardens but that was offset by the amazing Roman cistern which seems to emanate from the adjacent Roman Amphitheatre area.
