Our Europcar broke down the day we hired it from Brindisi airport in Italy.
(which in itself was frustrating as the service was incredibly slow). We tried to call the number they provided but no one spoke English!
We were left stranded in a rural area, by the side of the road, and we are both OAPs. We had never visited the area before. We managed to contact the owner of the B & B we were staying in and he came and picture
us. He spoke to Europcar in Italian and they said we should call back on Monday (this was Saturday). We were left without a car and so had to hire one from a local dealer, arranged by our B&B owner. On the Monday, Europcar said we would have to drive back to Brindisi airport to get another car ( about 60 km). They provided another car which we then found had no air conditioning and the temperature in Puglia was around 30c for the 11 days holiday.
We habve received no refund from Europcar for the 2 days we didn’t have a car from them but had paid for in advance, and on arrival home found that Europcar have taken another large payment out of our account without our agreement.
We will never use Europcar again, we are trying to get some compensation.

Terrible place ! ! ! Complete unorganized , dirty worn out and chaos. Little help to expect from people working there. Try to go from another port or find other solutions.
👎👎👎
Glad I am going to Greece, where the people are more friendly and helpful.

Such a disappointment!
When I saw some pictures (and certain reviews) of Brindisi, I imagined nice boutiques, little streets, lots of restaurants, etc.
Well...the reality is that there's nothing much to do apart from the museum beside the main square. The city is dirty although some monuments are nicely refurbished.
Go to Lecce, Ostuni or Monopoli!

We were so lucky to book an English tour with an guide who was also an archaeologist. Absolutely brilliant! The fort is absolutely huge with different parts and a fascinating history. I could not recommend it enough. So interesting to see a fort with an enclosed mini port and so much in good condition. We walked there along the causeway which was also so lovely.

A nice promenade between the town and the harbour where you will see plenty of larger and smaller vessels. The town itself however did not attract my attention mainly due to the absence of a centro storico. Still worth you visit though

We took the Grimaldi Lines ferry from Brindisi to Igomenitsa in Greece and back to Brindisi from Patras.
A thoroughly, genuinely, terrible experience. Started with "arrive 2 hours before departure for check in" - usually this means a couple of hours of sitting about, but in this case its an actual 2 hours of checking in, standing in a very long bad tempered, hot, smelly, queue.
Followed by madness of no organisation of cars getting onto the ferry - this is what happens without those people who guide you on in a sensible way. Complete gridlock getting onto and off the ferry. It took 2 hours to load the boat!
The journey out their was, perhaps, enough seating for a 5th of the number of passengers and barely enough floor space inside for people to sit down - there were people literally laying up the stair cases. We left 2 hours late, 4 hours after the start of check in.
On the way back, thank God we booked a horrid stuffy cabin for the overnight trip. Still, with only enough vehicles to fill about a quarter of the boat, it left late and with a flat calm sea lost another hour before picking up people and cars on the way. We watched from the deck as the, presumably, underpowered boat took 30 mins to dock while a superfast.com ferry docked, unloaded and loaded its load and set off. We were another hour.
Again, people were sleeping all down the corridors, on the stairs and so on. No toilet paper, cleaning obviously. Only one stall selling a few snacks and coffees - a closed shop. Flat calm sea again and still we arrived 2 hours late and it took another hour to get off the boat.
This is not only a horrendous experience I seriously doubt whether its at all safe and whether the service is operating anywhere near to legal standards.
In terms of travel to Greece, I would never use that route again. The motorway journey to the far South of Italy misses all of the attractive parts of the country, its a near endless slog requiring a couple of over night stops and a couple of tanks of fuel (Italian fuel is more expensive that it is in the UK!!). Way more sensible to catch a boat up the coast and never (NEVER) a Grimaldi Lines tub.

1948,after ww2 ended, survivors of the Holocaust tried to get to Palestine to start new life. They gathered here, in Brindisi, to get on old and broken boats and ships. Thousands of people, broken, still hoping to get to their holy land. Unfortunately Brits had mandate over Israel
And caught many of those boats, sent the survivors to camps in Cyprus. It took time
To bring them "home".
I recommend u to see the movie

We docked here with Thomson celebration cruise ship everyone was complaint about it.
We went on the little train that takes you round to show the sights,
Absolute waste of money we saw all the filthy back streets.the guide said this is where all the rich people live my husband said where about, the houses were behind brick walls with big trees we just had to take her word for it.
I said surely it gets better unfortunately it didn't.
We saw hundreds of illegal immigrants in a disused building.
At a cost of 30 euros for both of us we felt totally ripped of.
I would recommend everyone avoid this tour unless you want ripped off

Needing a ferry to get to Greece (Igoumenitsa) we took the Grimaldi ferry.
We did not book a cabin as we were leaving the ship at 4am, having been told there were airline seats on board.
The ferry resembled a disaster ship, strewn with passengers on every inch of flooring.
No seats available, people spread across 2 or 3 seats, bedding, sleeping bagsand hammocks.
No smoking totally disregarded by passengers and staff.
Found out later this ferry route has aterrible reputation.
The toilets? Well you,can only imagine.
We did meet people who had a cabin whomsaid theynwere okay, just nowhere to go for food, drinks etc.
An absolute disaster, never again.

Brindisi was a pleasant surprise. Arrived not expecting to much but was immediately impressed by the quality of the place. The shopping is 1st class as is the whole town centre. Really good range of restaurants and coffee shops. Locals very friendly and engaging.

Hi Doug, We're off to Brindisi late April and wondered if you had any recommendations for a traditional Italian restaurant in the old town. We're not ones for sitting on a beach, and have an airbnb booked, and also a trip to Alberobello so hoping to find some lovely markets too. Thanks.

Ciao a tutti. Arrivo con la crociera a Brindisi. Spiagge vicine consigliate? Grazie
Written 31 October 2019

Written 8 March 2018
Not any halal restaurants that I know, just stick to chicken and fish dishes, some clubs on weekends or some nice beaches. I only spent one day there waiting for a ferry.

We will be in Brindisi for only a few hours on a cruise stopover, what is recommended as a short activity, or a nice walk or similar? Or do we just wander around the town for a few hours? Thanks

I'm trying to find the ferry schedule from Brindisi to Greece, preferably Kefalonia, Patras, or Corfu. We would want to catch the ferry in mid-May 2017. I've tried a number of ferry websites, but I can't get a schedule. I put in the dates I'm looking for and get nothing. Do the ferries run in mid-May?
Written 28 March 2017
I travelled in 1981.
You have a point as I tried web site 'isFerry' for Brindisi to Corfu
and did not get any schedule.
I tried Brindisi to Patras (out 18th May and In 23rd May) and got a schedule but seems the ferry does not go daily.
I would think the ferries ply in mid May but ..... you better check.
