Square wich takes its name from a merchant, Stefano Fabri, from Ferrara, who sold his wares here during the 17th century, its is the continuation of the Mercantile Square .In the center of the square, near the back of the church, you can see the remains of the ancient Roman road Appia Traiana.

Visited Piazza del Ferrarese during the evening and during the day and on both occasions found many people walking or seating in the different restaurants and coffee shops.
Part of the old road built by the Romans is well identified with respective explanations.

During the day is a local meeting point. Surrounded by restaurants and pubs. At the evening you can see full of people enjoying a drink and relaxing.

Enjoyable piazza to visit. Many restaurants to chose from. Near the sea and nice to walk around. Busy and fun to people watch. Recommended.

Very interesting tourist attraction, lots of little bars and ice cream parlours too. Walls to sit on too, be aware of pickpockets here especially solo or women in couples without men.

Piazza Ferrarese has always been one of the access points to the old town which, with its narrow streets, alleys and small openings, extends from Piazza Ferrarese - Piazza Mercantile up to the Normanno -Svevo castle.
During recent restoration, which involved not only the square but also the surrounding buildings, a short stretch of the ancient Via Appia – Traiana came to light, built by the Romans in the early second century A.D.
Nowadays the square is filled with very busy bars and restaurants and, together with Piazza Mercantile, has become a must for those enjoying Bari’s nightlife. Charming and romantic evening views of the brightly lit seafront can be enjoyed from the square and the access ramp to Via Venezia.
It is the perfect place to hold concerts, artistic performances and especially the majestic illuminations that accompany the festival which honours of the patron saint of Bari, San Nicola.

The piazza is a good place to start your visit of Bari Vecchia or to end it. It's a nice strolling place, it offers views to the sea. You can also sit down and look at the people who pass by. There are some also some bars, coffee shops and restaurants in the piazza. In the middle of the square there is an archeological site that uncovers a part of via Appia Traiana. On one evening we had a pizza from the Pizzeria Il Veliero, which was delicious.

Sit down with a peroni beer and just watch the people. I just don't get why Bari has a bad rap! Sure parts behind the central station are not very nice, but that goes for many cities. We spent our days by this square, in the historic centre and by the seaside. Nothing but friendly and happy people. Sure the city as some graffiti, but overall, especially in the old part the streets and alleys are clean. For me Bari is the perfect southern Italian destination. You don't see a lot of tourists. Only Italians celebrating holidays and they ought to know where to go, right? The old town is a bit "Arabic" in the architecture, it reminds me of the lovely Alfama quartiers in Lissabon. Here you will see old ladies making orchiettes and it's not a made as a tourist attraction, it's just daily Bari life. At Piazza deal Ferrarese you will overhear frenzy discussions about football, you will see smiling holiday celebrating youngsters, ice cream-munching Italian families... Cute kids playing football... Have a cheap and good tasting pasta dished for 8 euros at one of the restaurants round the square. In this town you eat very good at very reasonable prices.

Piazza del Ferrarese is a nice place. There are several restaurants to chose from. It is located near to the sea and nice to walk around.

On the day we were here there were many school groups assembling to tour the city. There is a roped off area with part of an ancient Roman road exposed. Apparently it is right under the modern pavement. You can see the stones of the original street and the ruts that there carts made in it. Take the time to imagine the Roman days and all the activity that would have been going on at the port back then.
