Easter Week Church Going

For the week before Easter the Basilica San Nicola is the place to be! It is not Saint Peter's in Rome, but then this is Bari ... simpler and more low key.

We could not be in Bari and not visit this Church! It is beautiful inside like many other churches in Italy. I am happy we got to see this.

Cathedral is really very intresting. It is main place which you should visit in Bari. It is stone church with raw interior except ceiling. There is the crypt with St Nicolaus remnants.

Located in the old town on the sea side, this cathedral is preserving the relics of Saint Nikolaus. The legend says the bones were stolen by a bunch of sailors from Mira (Smirne/Izmir), where the Saint was born, and transported to Bari. The cathedral is divided in several parts and the crypt is the most visited place. Visitors from any... More

And his corpse is available for all to see in the crypt of this ancient church, a real gem of Byzantine/Norman architecture, like so many places in the old Regno. Very good value and easy to find ,and just about the only place in Bari where you can get the t-shirt, if that is what you are after.

Just one of those things that takes your breath away. The most impressive Basilica in the region, it's home to Saint Nicholas tomb. I think credible cultural and historical importance both for the city, and all of the Russian nationals Orthodox religious relic seekers. Unique must-see experience.

Our trip was in Easter and we visited the Basilica just the same day when there was a procession of priests and people praying on the stations of cross. It was us a special moment hearing the singing and praying. The Basilica has a beautiful ceiling worth a visit.

Quite popular with lots of tourists as well as locals. It seems that the Russian President Putin visited it a while back - he donated a statue of St. Nicolas, which stands in the piazza. Lots of historical and beautiful relics. Must-go in Bari.

This magnificent church has quickly won a place in my top ten anywhere - and that's saying a lot considering how many churches I've visited! The old city in Bari is excellent too.
