    Spectacular
A church of 2 parts, the lower church is subterranean, beautiful frescoes are extremely well preserved. One in particular of St Francis is from the 14th century and one of the oldest in art history. There are remains of the old church beneath grills which are from the 6th century. The ceiling above the altar is simple and charming. The upper church is stunning, from the wooden ceiling, painted with the images of 416 saints to the altar, the Alighieri Chapel where the descendants of Dante are buried to St Anthony’s Chapel where frescoes were found behind marble during restoration. Worth every penny of the €4 entry. Make sure you are dressed appropriately too, covered shoulders are a must.

Unique wooden ceiling that housed amazing work of 400+ saints
This is one of the 3 churches we visited in Verona, part of the Verona Pass so the entrance is already "paid for". We thoroughly enjoyed the amazing wooden ceiling, very different from what we've seen. 416 saints in total. It also has a much older church beneath the newer church, in the basement. We are always so amazed by the architecture of these incredible churches throughout Italy. Well worth the time spent here.

A church on top of a church
It is on two levels, but there was a mass in progress so we only spent a few minutes looking at the upper level. The upper church has a huge altar set in a beautifully painted wall. It is very tall, with a beautiful wooden ceiling. There are several richly decorated side chapels. Too bad we couldn’t access the sixth century church below.

It is one of the four beautiful churches in Verona included in a special itinerary. Built in the 5th century, after the year 1000 the Benedictines came to manage the church and two centuries later the Franciscans. At the beginning of 1807, Napoleon's troops evicted the friars. You must visit the lower and upper church. The first is Romanesque in style while the second is a true treasure chest of art and is truly impressive. Be careful because weddings are often celebrated and even on the occasion of my visit it was closed from 3.30pm to 5.30pm on Saturday

You can get a bit. Hunched out in Italy as there are so many amazing examples. Interestingly many of them offer something different and this is no exception. The wooden carved inverted boat for is a wonder to behold with pictures of hundreds of Saints. Well worth a look

The church stands on the building, probably dating back to the 5th century, where the relics of the martyrs Fermo and Rustico were brought for veneration. It consists of two churches that the Benedictines built in the 11th century, lower and upper. Lower for relics, higher for celebrations. The superior underwent a major transformation in the 13th century at the hands of the Franciscans who took over from the Benedictines.
Interior of the lower church characterized by beautiful wall paintings from the 1300s. An extraordinary baptism. A decoration of all times with a 6-petaled flower recalling the monogram of Christ. The upper church has an overturned ship's hull ceiling with 416 images of saints placed in small wooden aedicules. Beautiful wall paintings.
Paid visit.

Another of the large churches that are included in the combined visit of the four largest in Verona. Located next to the river, it is accessed through the small garden to the left of the front façade. The current hall-shaped Franciscan church stands on a previous Romanesque Benedictine church that now remains as a crypt and is also visited. Impressive coffered ceiling from the 14th century that includes 416 paintings of saints inserted inside small trefoil arches. The false ceiling suspended by chains, apparently almost intact despite a bombing that caused a fire on February 2, 1945, is impressive.

Our family of seven got the combined pass and made a quick trip to see this church.

After seeing churches/cathedrals all over the world, this one was unique because of the woodwork ceilings.

It is beautiful and worth a quick stop.

I enjoy looking at beautiful churches and the 4 main ones in Verona were worth seeing. You can either pay an entrance to each, which is 2.50 euros, or buy a pass for all four for 6 euros. Each had a different character to it but what they all had in common was a well laid out pamphlet available in many languages that made it easy to do a self-guided tour and the churches were all well taken care of.
