- westy54Sydney, Australia13,291 contributionsImpressive exterior and richly decorated interior. The tickets to enter the Cathedral complex which included the St Giovanni in Fonte baptistry, the St Elena church and archaeological excavations were EUR4-00 per person. The Cathedral dates from 1187 and was, as so many other churches, built on the site of earlier churches. The exterior of the building encompasses a number of different architectural styles including the original Romanesque facade with its arched two storied porch supported by two lions that projects out from the front walls. Additions and renovations during the 14th century resulted in a number of Gothic features, some of which were the large mullioned stained glass windows either side of the porch, whilst even further renovations on the upper part of the facade delivered some Baroque features. The 16th century bell tower is approximately 75 metres tall and contains nine bells. The interior, which was completely renovated in the fifteenth century, has a high central nave with two side aisles which are divided by tall arched marble pillars. The cross vaulted ceiling is largely unadorned. The floor was replaced in 1880 in black and white marble. There are six (three on either side) richly adorned chapels with beautiful paintings and altarpieces towards the front of the church plus several others towards the main altar. One of the side chapels, the Cartolari-Nichesola Chapel, has a wonderful painting of "The Assumption of the Virgin" by Titian on the altar. The rest of the interior is richly decorated with frescoes, paintings, various colours of marble and polychrome marble statues. The ceiling of the main chapel is beautifully decorated in 16th century frescoes by Francesco Torbido while there is a large bronze crucifix hanging above the choir screen. Complex is worth a visit.Visited December 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 9 July 2024
- Brown_SamanthaKennewick, Washington1,780 contributionsStunning cathedral with such rich history and a lower level of another earlier church on the same siteThis is one of the three churches we visited while vacationing in Verona. It is quite impressive on the outside, and the inside rivals any churches in Italy. Beautiful columns and frescoes, with many amazing chapels. The tall bell tower can be seen from many places in Verona. You can get a really good view if you take the funicular across the Adige River, and go up to the Castel San Pietro terraces. Quite a history that you can go down to the basement and see another church built earlier on the same site. It is definitely worth the time and a little bit away from central old town Verona. It is part of the Verona Pass we purchased, so a great value indeed.Visited June 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 14 July 2024

Really nice cathedral, certainly my favourite cathedral/church in Verona.
Very unique cathedral with lovely architectural design to it on the outside and the inside. With artwork and statues etc to see within Cathedral makes it worth the 4 euros entry fee.

A must see on your visit to Verona, so much history, beautiful, frescoes, and stunning statuary. We visited Verona this year in April and you can go to YouTube and look up Lisa Lancaster travels and go to the playlist Europe, 2023 and see more places to visit on this exceptional city. There are lots of video footage on the cathedral as well, which was quiet at the time we visited, which gave us the time to fully immerse ourselves and everything around us.

It’s one of the best cathedrals in Italy and that’s saying a lot. Vibrant, beautiful colors matched with incredible artistic skill yields painting and frescoes of superlative quality. I could literally spend hours here. There is so much to see. This is third time I have been here and I still go round and round and round because it’s hard to see all the detail on one circuit. Each time I go here, I do not want to leave, but since there are other places to see, eventually I leave, saddened by the thought that I may never return. That’s what the endless pictures are for.

This is a very nice church that is well worth a visit. An unusual circular altar "rail". It is not a rail but much larger. I would recommend either the 4 churches ticket or the Verona card as these give good value. The latter is the best for me.

This was my third visit to Verone, and the Cathedral was one of its highlights.
This is a landmark often overlooked by tourists, while instead has many interesting spaces to explore. The complex includes the main church, the baptistery, and a smaller church. It is also possible to see remains of previous ancient structures.
The cathedral itself is a very nice space and it has a very unique ambience. When we visited it was not busy, which made our experience eideal.

В какое время в будни можно услышать орган?
Written 18 August 2018
Полагаю, в дни служб. Собор закрывается рано - как и практически все церкви Европы, где не проводится концертов. Просто так - даже по расписанию - орган не играет.
