Neighbourhood: Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.

Arianna welcomes to you in her atelier, beautiful little shop near Venice Ghetto. If you want colored stamps or paintings of Venice channels and buildings, it's the right place. Very chip and nice, Arianna is a good advisor.

My husband and I were visiting on our honeymoon and looking for a place to eat when we stumbled on Arianna's art shop. The store was well lit and clean, and filled with lots of beautiful prints and water colors. The artist, Arianna, was working on some artwork when we walked in, but paused to chat with us about her artwork. She explained the process she used to create her prints. Her English is very good! She did not treat me like a tourist, like so many shop owners do, and she was very kind and interesting. As a former art student, I was very interested and asked a bunch of questions. She understood them all and answered me in detail. She pointed out which of her work was original and which were prints. Even though she was closing up, she still took the time to wrap my art so that it was safe to pack in my suitcase. Arianna runs a really nice shop and is a very talented artist! Thanks!

Thank you very very much for your kind words!! It's always a pleasure for me to talk to people and try to explain well what I do - I want the people to know how my artworks are created. And I love also to learn something by people- there's always something to learn! And thank you also for saying that my English is very good.. :)
Ciao!

We were walking near our hotel in Venice and discovered Arianna's wonderful studio-shop. Arianna took the time to explain how she produces her artwork and allowed us to browse until we decided on our purchase. Her watercolors are beautiful and depict Venice in a very beautiful way! We are happy she was nearby and we stepped inside. We wish her great success!

My review is for those who wants to take classes in this studio.
At first I’m really thankful for this experience because now I know the difference between amateurs and professionals. So if you are just a tourist wishing to spend some hours on really nice art activity - that’s definitely for you. The place is cozy and atmospheric and this is a nice entertainment while you are here.
But I cannot recommend it if you are an artist who wants to improve skills. At first the price you see on the website is for two people. So if you are a solo, the price is +40% but you never find this info at her website so far. I attached some screenshots as a proof.
The price: I’ve researched prices for this kind of classes and can tell you can find better options for this money. The price is too high for this kind of experience. (170 Euro per 8 hours, 290 per 16 which isn’t listed on the site)
The printing process: I followed her instructions but my artwork was printed in reverse. The first print was ruined because the black marker sketch lines weren’t removed. The quality of linoleum is not perfect - empty unpainted space were left while printing. So almost all copies of the whole edition are spoiled.
The attitude: I don’t want to add personal touch to my review. But in this field not everything is going well.
Definitely after putting my review it comes the answer but I really don’t care about it.

I'm answering this review just to explain a couple of things.
Let's start with the prices. On the website you can see the prices per person for two-people-courses: if you fill the form and contact me, you will have all the information you need via email. That’s why it’s written “Contact me for further information” This is because I don’t want to confuse with different prices on the same page and also because the main purpose of the “courses” page is to get in touch with interested people and begin to establish a relationship with them, as well as give information.
The prices that Anna indicated were provided to her via email, she could accept to attend my course at the prices I provided or not, the online offer is varied and I do not want to force anyone to attend my courses
Concerning the result of the work: I have explained Anna many times the procedure to follow, and what should have resulted in the plate and then in the print. The subject she chose was an abstract work made by her that she looked at from her mobile phone.
She has been working for 4 hours on the drawings and on the plate without realizing that she was working in reverse. I asked her many times if the result was what she expected to see (since it was an abstract work, I didn't know which was the correct way to look at it), considering that later it would have been turned upside down in the press, and she said she was satisfied and everything was ok.
And in fact, when she printed it, she was very happy with the result. Only the following day she realized that the print was upside down and she wrote me a message. In the next lesson, she kept on to say that she really liked the result of her work, but I realize now that it wasn't true, considering her review.
My work as a teacher in the studio consists of explaining the procedures and indicating the best choice for each person, following the people during the printing process.
If someone does not understand what I am explaining, he can ask me to explain it again until he is sure of what he has to do.
My job is not to do the work for the students, nor to control them all the time as if they were children.
As for the quality of the prints: during the printing phase we saw that there were slight differences, and Anna expressed her approval for the fact that a handmade work was enhanced by the fact that each print was different from the other. She must have changed her mind now.
The first print she thinks was ruined was just a test print, and we have made several test prints. This is the normal practice in printmaking: several test prints until you get the desired result.
Probably Anna thought that the first test was the good one, since she is used to make only ever digital prints, but printmaking is something else: it is work, tests, corrections, until you get the right result.
Working on a computer is something else, that’s a fact.
As far as the attitude is concerned, we should open a separate chapter.
The collaboration with Anna was immediately difficult.
Beginning with the 26 (twenty-six) emails that I sent her to meet her continuous changes of idea - first she wanted to attend the 30 hour course, then the 16 hour course, then she asked for a change of dates, then another, then another one. So far no problem, I like to meet the needs of the people I work with- as long as this goodwill is there on both sides.
The programme for the course that we had agreed upon together involved two very different engraving techniques.
When it was time to think about the subject for the second technique, I rejected Anna's proposal. The role of a teacher is also to show the best way to a good result: a single line, as she proposed, was far too little.
Probably Anna didn't like my suggestion to do more than what she expected to do. Before coming back for the third lesson she contacted me saying that she had to cancel the remaining half of the course because of problems she had at home. I came to meet her once again and gave her back part of what she had already paid me, even though the notice was so short. The problem that took an entire morning of chat discussions was the amount that she thought I should have given her back: she wanted to pay the price of the course for two people she had seen online and not what we had agreed via email for a single person. The reason for this review may be partly a rebound for not being able to be clever all the way through.
I gave her back part of the money because I wanted to believe she really had problems.
The truth came out when I saw one of her Instagram posts where she said she was not going home but she was going to attend another class in another city.
I don't regret I gave her back part of what she paid, even if she didn't have any right to it because of the very short notice - Indeed, if I could give her back the entire amount and erase even the memory of her, I would gladly do so.
The last point I want to talk about is this distinction between tourists and artists.
I don't think I can say who is an artist and who’s not, but I see people who have never drawn put much more effort during my courses than those who consider themselves to be an “artist” and continually seek loopholes trying to draw as little as possible and skipping steps to make life easier
Printmaking is a discipline that needs patience, flexibility and the ability to get involved, trying to push yourself beyond your limits. I realize that it's not for everyone.
Certainly not for Anna.

Her artwork is beautiful, you won't be upset walking away with a her one of a kind creations. I'm giving three starts solely because she was rude to me. After buying a postcard I asked if I could have a small bag to put it in so I didn't ruin it by stuffing it in my bag. She said she didn't have one, which is fine. Until, I walked back in with someone else 5 minutes later, who proceeded to buy a postcard, and she gave them a bag without asking. I get it, its a dumb complaint, but I was very upset by her blatant lie and rudeness.

Hello Lisa,
I'm sorry you had a bad experience, so please let me explain.
Since even the small bags are individually made-by-hand by me in the studio, my policy is to give the small bags to the customers who buy two items at least.
So, if you buy just one postcard, I don't give you the small bag -that's it.
If I gave someone who bought just one postcard a small bag... well, I made a mistake -it happens!
I do apologize if I seemed to be rude, it wasn't my intention at all, and I'm sorry you decided to review me with three stars but I understand your point of view, even if -to use your words- this is just a "dumb complaint".
Thank you very much, I hope we'll have another chance to meet and I'm pretty sure your experience here at the studio will be better!
All the best
Arianna

Arianna was lovely. She showed us how she created her etchings and also her other artwork.
This is not fine art, but it is an artist doing their thing in a beautiful workshop.
We met one of the other artists sharing the workshop and it would be nice to have seen their craft too. Arianna didn't push any sales or make you feel uncomfortable.
Great place and close to the ciccetti bars too.

Arianna was fantastic. You can tell how much she loves her art and how passionate she is about Venice and print-making. We enjoyed an 8 hour etching course, she was patient, meticulous, informative and delightful. She speaks excellent English and it was a great atmosphere because as we were being enthusiastically taught, customers from all over the world were coming into the shop and buying Arianna's prints and originals. The lovely studio is in a great location as well, with bars and a great coffee shop/tea shop on the canal side nearby. We would highly recommend visiting Arianna's shop for some original artwork made in Venice, or if you have more time take a printing course with her - you won't regret it!

My sketch translated into linocutprint using two lino blocks - so excited with the results and what a pleasure to find Arianna of @plumplumcreations who provided her expertise and support to making it happen. Do check out Arianna who is a fabulous artist and also offers printmaking courses in her shop/studio. I took the 8 hr course and how brilliant to be able to convert my sketch into print in Venice. Swipe right to see the different stages from actual sketch, lino blocks cut and prints.
Such a brilliant find and grazie mille Arianna 😊

We had a fantastic time at our Etching lesson. Arianna is a fantastic teacher, very detailed, very skilled, and she takes you very thoroughly through the process. The lesson time means you have lots of time to print your work, trying different colours and techniques. This was such a wonderful experience to have in the heart of Venice. A wonderful memory and an incredible place to learn a new skill.

We happened upon this by chance and are so grateful we did. What an absolutely beautiful location and shop, and we both went home with a print. Arianna's work is exquisite, detailed, and a perfect keepsake of our amazing trip to Venice. We highly recommend everyone stop in and see her work.
