The area

Neighbourhood: San Polo
The Rialto Bridge is the most famous sight along the Grand Canal in San Polo, smallest of Venice's six sestieri (districts) and by far the busiest neighbourhood. Morning Venetians arrive to peruse the markets for fish, fruit and vegetables, while shops display goods from cheese to wine to desserts. San Silvestro and Rialto Market vaporetto (water taxi) stops add to the steady stream of foot traffic. San Polo is defined by churches including Basilica dei Frari, one of the most important churches sought by art lovers.

Absolute amazing!! All masks are handmade and absolutely beautiful. We visited the shop once and fell in love and wanted visit again but unfortunately this was our last day and our schedule changed. The shop owner was so kind to open the store for us earlier the next day before our flight so that we could buy a few more items. Lovely service and all staff was super friendly and very informative. I can highly recommend this place for anyone who appreciates handmade products and great customer experience.

Loved this place! They make all mask by hand using the paper mache method which is the traditional way. They also use the same fabric on their mask as they do their gowns. The crystals used are Swarovski. The feathers are also real feathers to prevent breakage and damage. The mask do come with a certified stamp. I bought one for myself and my two daughters. They are absolutely beautiful! It’s also just a fun shop to go in as masquerades are part of the Venetian culture. I plan to get a clear box to store mine in and use a decorative piece in my living room; it’s too beautiful to not be seen.

Bit late writing the review - we went in February!! We went for the paint your own mask session - family of 4, children 10 and 12 years.
It was fabulous. The lady we were with gave us a bit of history, and a lot of guidance. She was very helpful and made the experience one to remember - even had some Welsh words up her sleeve!
Masks were beautiful too. Very authentic shop and people.
Many thanks

We got into multiple shops with masks but La Bauta and the lady that was working there and helping us, won as straight away. We left for a walk into the city and then directly came back to buy our Venice masks.
There is a great variety of unique made masks, with great colours and breathtaking designs. The lady was very helpful and was helping us to choose or to know how we can get our masks back to our country.
All I have to say is that I would definitely not consider looking any other shop after our visit there and for sure we will be in contact with their online ways of selling masks for future use.

Going to La Bauta was an super fun and made my Venice trip an even better experience. The owners were unbelievably nice to me and the quality of the masques is very high. The shop's beautifully decorated window displays attracted me multiple times. Eventually, I couldn't help myself but to go inside and to dive into the beauty of masquerades and costumes of a stunning era.
Additionally, the creative and high quality masks were gorgeous and affordable. I can only recommend everyone to go there and see it themselves.

We purchased three masks online.
We contacted La Bauta and arranged a time to have a video call to see the masks in store.
Rossella walked us around the store via FaceTime showing us the beautiful masks in their shop. Rossella then arranged the pieces and took photos so we could see them put together.
The masks were delivered to our home in the United States in only four days!
The masks are absolutely stunning and come with certification of authenticity.
I highly recommend La Bauta and a very big grazie mille to all the staff!

We’ve taken part in a workshop to decorate our own mask and it was super fun. The artist explained everything and was very helpful when it came to arranging different colors.
On top of that she was fluent in English and French.
Best idea to spend the hottest hours of the day by decorating your own masks 🎭.
Thank you for the great time,
We had a blast!

10 out of 10 would recommend. I was in Venice back in August and stumbled across La Bauta when I was quite lost. Before the pandemic started I had begun putting together a cosplay costume that was a Victorian bodice dress. And it was just missing something. I showed a picture of the dress to the shopkeeper and within minutes she had a selection of beautiful masks to try then went beyond and suggested adding a cloak. I came away with an absolutely gorgeous mask and a velvet cape. When I returned from Europe I put the entire costume together and it was magnificent

Just stopped in there to look and walked out with a beautiful costume. They are some of the nicest people we met during our trip to Italy. Their talent is indescribable. They helped me select a handmade coat, hat, and collar for my Halloween costume and were able to ship it home to the USA. Thank you so much and I hope anyone looking to get a beautiful piece of Venetian art chooses your store :)!

Buying an authentically crafted mask was one of our wishes. We looked at many vendors during our three day visit of Venice, when we stumbled on our last day on La Bauta, their mask designs and local craftsmanship was wonderful. Rossella provided us with insights on the masks, was polite, very helpful and not pushy enabling us to make a decision. Thank you.
