Peaceful beautiful church

We visited and we struck how pleasantly uncrowded it was therefore making our visit very peaceful. We lit a candle for loved ones who have passed on and gave a small donation

The real wonder is hidden in the simple things... This church is a small one and not full of decorations. Exactly that is why I feel it's a real magic place. There is a lot of simplicity and purity. I like to go there for clearing my mind doing a short meditation. The real miracles start inside of yourself. So... More

A beautiful setting in Canareggio. Lovely little piazza next to a small canal. The Church is a tribute to work in marble pink and white, the interior is peaceful no baroque over the top decorations here. The piazza has a lovely simple bar great for a pit stop to take in the ambience.

We didn't go inside, however the outside of the church was so very beautiful, even with its imperfections - our guide told us the architect was more of a sculpture, rather than a person good with calculations, therefore the windows on the back are not centered in their arches, which makes the church even more special-looking. It does indeed resemble... More

The only church which is made of marbles only. Looks like a treasure box. Currently most of the weddings are held here as easy access from canal which is only few meters. This way even if rains bride dress won't get wet or dirty. Nice one, worth a visit!

On a walking tour the guide invited us to take a quick look inside this church - it's been restored at great expense, has a beautiful interior (I'm told!) and is where Venetian brides wish to get married. I say 'I'm told, as after a few people peeped inside, a woman from the church complained and stood to block our... More

The Church of Santa Maria Dei Miracle is unique in that it was designed, built and decorated by one artist and his workshop by the name of Pietro Lombardo. It is an example of Venetian architecture with its colored marbles. It’s exterior has a semicircular front and the interior has a single aisle with stairs leading to the main altar.... More

The Santa Maria dei Miracoli is a one cause church. It is the shelter of an Icon, pure and simple. The marble works are just stunning, light, simple, superior. Compared to the muddle and megalomania of the large churches of Venice this room gives piece of mind.

This was our favorite Church of all those we visited last week on our three days in Venice for the first time - very beautiful without being too much to take in like some of the others. If you must miss some do not miss this one!

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
