Perfect day trip from Venice

It was a island-hopping tour. I loved the Burano, beautiful place and colors! Island is often overlooked by visitors to the famous canal city...highly recommented!

You first experience Laguna di Venezia enroute from the mainland. There are numerous islands to explore within the area.Murano, Lido, Le Vignole, Giudecca and many more. Venice is more than just the main tourist destination. Use the Vaporetto to access the other islands.

Take a vaparetto (water taxi) on a jaunt around the peaceful Laguna di Venezia...you can stop at Chiaggio, Lido, Murano, Burano or other smaller isles and spend a day hopping on and off the boat...see glass blowing factories, small churches and marketplaces to mention a few curiousities. Sunny day special!

If you have time during your trip to Venice, try to visit some of the islands of the lagoon. We went to Burano, Murano, Lido and Chioggia, using the daily travel pass for the Actv boats, and enjoyed a variety of environments and atmospheres.

Great escape. From the city. And the crowds. Great to get around to outer islands, the Marco Polo airport and outlying towns. Heavily traveled and all sorts of vessels here. A real taste of the area around the city. And a must do thing for visitors

Burano a must but get away from the tourist drag! We had a lovely lunch down a side canal at a little restaurant away from the usual drag!

For some silly reason. Venice is surrounded by the Sea! Who would of thought it! JUST KIDDING GENTLE READER! Anyways The Boss & I showed up at the Venice Airport. Which in itself is another hilarious story that is for another day. We also did not see the George Clooney either. But that is for small minds to consider &... More

Lived sailing across the Laguna but despite us going back and forth several times we didn't see George Clooney! Stunning views nevertheless.

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
