The beautiful installation by the Catalan artist Jaume Plensa in the nave, and a second installation with entry around the left side are worth the trip. Don't miss Hiroshi Sugimoto's glass teahouse and meditative walkway a bit further past, turning right.

This small island is home to both a magnificent church and a leading energy and economics think tank. FEEM must be doing something right because they have beautiful surroundings here in Venice.

It's just a short trip across to the island and well worth it. It's very pleasant to escape the hustle and bustle of Venice for a while. There is a pleasant little coffee shop where you can sit and gaze at the City. A lift...More

We went to San Giorgio Maggiore the day after hitting San Marco Piazza and doing all (or most) of the plethora of touristy things there. We had a bit of free time the following day, and thought it'd be nice to visit this lovely little...More

One stop in a water taxi from St Marks Square we took the trip after a recommendation. The church was pretty interesting with some surprise modern art installed but we came for the view. Up the elevator in the bell tower you're seconds away from...More

Frist you get another r ide on a great quick vaporetto. From the tower the pictures of Venice are great. Perfect spot for photos. The church is fun to see as well. There was an art installation going on while we visited.

Great view from the Campanile and no queues! Get the boat over from St Mark's Square. The view back to St Mark's and the Doge's Palace are the classic ones that you want to photograph.

By luck we landed here and we enjoyed this place. While the cathedral per se is not really unusual imo, the views from the tower (costs €6) make the trip well worth it. In fact, I think it's money better spent versus paying to climb...More

This magnificent building and in it two intense sculptures by the brilliant Jaume Plenza - if you are in Venice for the Biennale, then you must see this. If you are in Venice as a traveler only, then you still must see SGM - one...More

This was an easy vaporetto ride from San Marco, and much less crowded. The island is tiny and there is just a bit of walking available, but San Marco was a complete zoo from early to well past sunset. The San Giorgio church was free,...More

We always buy a vaporetto ticket for the week we are staying in Venice so I am not sure about the ruling on two separate trips. I my view it is probably just as cheap to buy a day ticket and you would be able to hop on and... More
