Really lovely building, and beautiful on the inside. It was an absolutely lovely spot to sit on the steps and just watch the Grand Canal go by. From the steps, you also get a fabulous view of San Marco across the canal. Also, it's really nice to be close to the mouth of the canal, so you can walk around... More

This is the Baroque church that you can't miss in Venice. It dominates the skyline more than Saint Mark's or any of the other buildings in Venice. It was yet another church built to give thanks for their deliverance by survivors of one of the plagues. Externally it is incredible. Internally, well I'm not sure because half of it was... More

Stunning from the outside at salute water stop but inside whilst decorative was disappointing with very little to see due to restoration and very little tourist information.

An incredible building, so peaceful, cool and beautiful. We spent an hour wandering around looking at the magnificent architecture. Even the walk to and from it was glorious. The statue with the armed guard is worth a look, but what a boring job!

When you visit this church, make sure that you don't miss visiting the sacristy. The entrance is non-descript and sort of hidden off to the side, you have to wind through a narrow hallway to get to the entrance point, and you have to pay a few euro to get inside, but it is well worth it. The frescoes on... More

If you visit the island opposite S Marco, via the Accademia bridge, turn left and lose the Venice crowds. Walk thro quiet streets with galleries and restaurants, past the Peggy Guggenheim (but do that too) and you will reach the iconic church with its welcoming steps, a rest and a sight for sore eyes, across the lagoon and off to... You'll have to wait to visit the Salute as it is presently being refurbished inside and more than half of the church cannot be visited at the present.

We were staying across the lagoon from here, but just took the Vaporetto across to explore this side of Venice. Lovely building, inside and out - well worth a visit.
