This clock is beautiful. I first came to Venice 30 years ago and took so many photos of this clock. It's magical. Don't miss walking under it and viewing from the back as well. It's not as impressive from the back but adds to the character of the street none the less. We couldn't go up the clock because my... More

Probably missed by a lot of people this clock tower located to the left of the Bascilica San Marco as you look at it, is a very impressive piece of architecture and contains a digital clock which updates every 15 minutes.

This is a beautiful archway and tower just to the left of the San Marco square as you're facing San Marco Cathedral. You can pass under it as you head to Rialto Bridge.

Often first time visitors to the city never notice this beautiful clock, on entering the Piazzo San Marco, there eyes are immediately taken with the amazing and totally beautiful Basilica San Marco. After visiting the city many, many times we still take time to re-look at this richly decorated 16th century Renaissance Clock see the phases of the moon. See... More

Another stunningly beautiful and historic iconic landmark in Venice not to be missed. I found the best views of this spectacular clock were from the easily accessible roof viewing area of the adjacent St Marks Basilica.(Free to access too).

It is stunning to see how clever this clock is built with so many functions well ahead of it's time. The tour guide is amazing.

I am pretty sure you will see this if you come to Venice. It is the gorgeous blue and gold clock tower on the San Marco Square, next to the Basilica de San Marco. Be sure to take more than a moment, to admire this beautiful clock!

The Amazing Clock Tower is also UNESCO's World Heritage Site. The dial of the ' clock is gold and blue enamel; marks hour, day, moon phases and zodiac. It is in Piazza di San Marco where the Amazing Basilica, the Strong Bell Tower and the Famous Doge's Palace are also located.

A beautiful building with the Sundial and Venetian Lion on it, well worth waiting for the clock to chime while visiting St Marks Square.

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
