We have visited them twice in the last few months, so that by itself speaks about how much we like it. We have seen Barber of Sevilla and La Traviata. Both experiences were similar: something unique (even the second time you visit it). Instead of having an invisible barrier between the stage and the audience, you are in the middle... More

The idea to provide an opera piece in a historical building in a pictoresque atmosphere is quite great. Nonetheless my expectations were a bit higher, given we had to pay 75euro each for the night, which lasted a bit more than one hour. The show and the singers were good, but seats were not allocated and one has to rush... More

We'd never been to an opera before, we're not opera buffs and don't listen to opera music! Why on Earth then, you might ask, did we go to see La Traviata at the Musica A Palazzo? Well, we figured, if not in Venice, then when? And we were so glad we went. This is a stunning experience that will move... More

A must to do. Opera in Palazzo, intimate and close atmosphere. Somehow we were sitting in first two rows (audience was moving between rooms). Forget about prosecco and simply get your best places to hear and almost to touch singers. A quartet of excellent musicians and superb singers performing also in La Scala. A real highlight of our trip to... More

Incredible performance from the musicians and the singers. We were amazed how talented the performers are. One good mini break in between with prosecco and other drinks. Reception starts at 8 but do get there at least 15 mins earlier to make sure you get good seats for the first act. May have been mentioned by the others, audience has... More

Opera can seem remote and unapproachable when seen in some vast auditorium but here in the intimate atmosphere of this "Promenade" production it is so close you can touch it, you are in fact part of the opera. We saw La Traviata, beautiful at any time but here, with the singers walking so close they brush against you , you... More

Whilst I've seen many musicals, I've never been to an opera before and wasn't entirely sure what to expect from the performance in such an intimate setting. All I can say is that I absolutely loved it, it's seriously moving, beautiful music, performed in a stripped back way by incredibly talented performers. A real highlight of our trip.

We are three decades-long opera buffs and pretty discerning. We signed up for this not really expecting too much, but it was one of the best things we did in Venice. The quality of the singing and acting was very high, and the setting (staging moved between three gorgeous rooms) was spectacular. The overall combination was one of intimacy and... More

I haven't been to an opera before and didn't particularly expect to enjoy this, but actually I loved it! Glad I read up on the story beforehand as it enabled me to follow the performance. Lovely and different night out.

We went with friends and there was a surreal moment as a group of people gathered in a little courtyard at the end of a dark alley waiting for the door to open. Then a scurry up a flight of steps and into a tired palazzo with a mixture of old furnishings and ultra-modern posters. The family, it seemed, was... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
