We went with friends and there was a surreal moment as a group of people gathered in a little courtyard at the end of a dark alley waiting for the door to open. Then a scurry up a flight of steps and into a tired palazzo with a mixture of old furnishings and ultra-modern posters. The family, it seemed, was... More

I was quite impressed with this experience. La Traviata is is one of my favorite operas, and it was such an interesting way to experience this beautiful music! When I reached out to book this, I was saddened to hear that the night I wanted to attend was booked, but they informed me that they were going to add another... More

It was an AMAZING experience! I would definitely return to see another opera. The location is a bit challenging to find, but it is pretty close to the Giglio water bus stop. It is 75 euros (cash only) to attend via Musica a Palazzo or you can purchase via Viator. The dress code is a bit dressier than business casual,... More

Wonderful way to get a feel for the Opera. Firstly, the downside... the seating is not the most comfortable so you do spend a fair bit of time fidgeting trying to get comfortable However... that said, it was a really lovely evening. Set in a private part of an old Palazzo, allowing you to feel part of the history. The... More

It was something! Old Palace, old fashioned rooms with a patina of ages around. It was about 5th performance of this opera for me, but most interesting. Violetta sung by Victoria Lai was best. Just violin, viola, cello and piano as the chamber music, just few characters "on stage" but unforgettable setting and memorable performance. All music lovers should go!

What other opera could you possibly want to see in Venice? Verdi's masterpiece was first performed here. My wife and I saw it at the unique Musica A Palazzo - the best Vaperetto stop is Giglio, it's not difficult to find, about a 5 minute walk. We paid 75 euro each - you have to pay in cash - but... Only things to watch for is the fact that you need to come with cash as they do not accept credit card ! 5the next ATM is... More

I booked on their website prior to arriving in Italy. It seemed a good way to experience Opera without sitting through an entire performance. This was indeed the case, however unless you were the first 20 or so people to arrive then the view was not great. The concept of moving rooms worked quite well and you then had an... More

We enjoyed the "Barber of Seville" up close and personal at this historic palazzo. We had no problems finding this in the dark at night. From the Giglio vaporetto stop, it was a short walk down the narrow alley, a left across the bridge and down the alley to the entrance. The walkway was lit up, so no problems with... More

This was a great way to spend an evening in Venice. Four musicians and three singers performed the main arias from La Traviata in the historic old Palazzo. The audience moves to different rooms for the three acts with a glass of procecco served between acts one and two. It was exciting to be so close to the performers and... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
