The area
Neighbourhood: Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Ancient bridge built in 1580 instead of a wooden bridge built in 1285. The spires were added during the rebuilt of 1823 and since that time is named Bridge of the spires

This is a fun and amazing place to paint! We set up our easels on each side of the bridge, in the morning on one side and in the afternoon on the other side to stay in the shade. There is a restaurant on one side close to the water. It is a nice place to eat and rest while still have an eye on your painting gears.

This was one of the first bridges that we crossed on our arrival from the train station. It wasn't bad pulling luggage towards our hotel. Quite a managable and wide bridge which leads towards the busy Rio San Leonardo.

This is a really nice area of Venice and should be a point to explore for everyone. It still has the hustle and bustle but with some nice on-street markets along the way and a really good choice of cafes and restaurants.

The bridge itself is nothing special but there are many nice shops on either side and many restaurants, although take care as some are actively trying to con tourists. Nice photo point during the day.

I really wonder why there is so much publicity for this. This is just another bridge in Venice (a big one though) which is more used and has many restaurants nearby. I didn't find it attractive at all.

The 4 spires identify this bridge, one of only two that cross the Cannaregio Canal. It was built in 1823. Along each side on the stone lining the arch are gargoyles. This is the first bridge to cross when walking east from Stazione Santa Lucia.

We found a nice shaded cafe spot just on the west side of the bridge, with covered outdoor seating. We enjoyed some excellent tiramusu, while watching the passers by.

This bridge can be considered the gateway to the Cannaregio district. It is one of only two bridges that cross Cannaregio Canal, and is located closest to Stazione Santa Lucia. Originally constructed in 1580, it was rebuild in 1823, when the spires, which give the bridge its name were added. The bridge is stone and brick and the single arch is adorned with gargoyles, each being a different face. A very photogenic bridge.
