Piazza dei Signori, one of the most evocative and vital spaces in Padua, one of the symbolic squares of its history but also of its lively and active present. Extremely nice and interesting square. There is a lot of charm and magical energy. Piazza dei Signori in the morning is a real meeting point for those who want to make a purchase in the many shops or linger among the stalls to browse among the goods on display, but from the afternoon, when the street vendors close their business, the square changes dress, dresses in harmony, leaving free the glimpse of the arcades. Piazza dei Signori still maintains its role as a city lounge today, with elegant shops, the traditional market and the beauty of the monuments that crown and complete the scenery. The square has a rectangular shape. The houses that surround it - of various eras and styles - rise for the most part on arcades of the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries. Some still bear medieval and Renaissance decorations. The square was born in the fourteenth century with the demolition of an ancient neighborhood that extended in front of the churchyard of the church of San Clemente, the result of those urban rearrangements promoted by Ubertino Da Carrara. The opening of the square was conceived to give importance to the eastern approach to the tower and palaces, Reggia Carrarese (a complex of buildings built by the Carrares, lords of Padua, within the medieval city walls, as their own residence) that were built. Piazza dei Signori is enclosed along the two major sides between two wings of porticoed houses, elegantly enriched by terraces with ancient wrought iron balconies, and then bounded by the Church of S.Clemente and the Palazzo del Capitanio, with the Clock Tower whose portico leads to Corte Capitaniato and the nearby square of the same name, where the Castle of the Carraresi, lords of Padua, once stood and where now there is the Liviano building, seat of the Faculty of Letters and Philosophy, with rooms painted by Altichiero. On the southern side stands the elegant Loggia del Consiglio or Gran Guardia, the sixteenth-century building where the city's Major Council met, of which we can appreciate the recent restoration, which took place with the contribution of the Cassa di Risparmio Foundation.

This fabulous town has lots of beautiful squares but this is probably the jewel in the crown. We were lucky enough to have a meal in it in one of the many beautiful restaurants and that gave us time to fully appreciate it.
Dating back to centuries, many of the buildings are quite simple but very ground and impressive. It is notable how clean and well maintained the area is.
Also lined with expensive boutiques and so on it really is a nice place to spend some time and just soak up the atmosphere.

Beautiful Treviso. We came to see the Malevich exhibition and ended up staying 2 more nights. The square is surrounded by shops and bars where you can stop and enjoy the chicchettini that they are so good at making. Parking is not always easy to find.

The whole thing is impressive but nothing reminds us that it is a reconstruction after the bombing of the Republic of Salo (homophony) in 1944!

Despite this relatively small historic piazza is the most important square in Treviso, ordinary local people still dominate the place. Very few tourists or those who can afford steep prices.
The Palazzo dei Trecento and Prefettura flank the square, while the Torre Civica can be seen high above. These originally were administrative buildings (not religious) that over time were enlarged and changed (growing -as it were- with the notorious Italian bureaucracy). The foundations of these structures were laid in 1400s, perhaps even earlier, but the buildings got their definite appearance during the mid 1700s.
Overall a pleasant captivating site to visit.

A large number of tourists visiting Italy, especially Rome, Venice, Florence, Verona. All the world knows the historical and cultural treasures of Venice, Rome, Padua, Milan, Florence, Pisa, Siena ...
Fewer tourists visit a beautiful city Trevisoat the confluence of Sila and Botteniga rivers. Treviso, a city with a rich historical past may have more charm than the previously mentioned cities. Treviso is crisscrossed by canals and river Sila, there are a lot of small bridges, in the center of town there is a waterfall. In the old part of the city's cultural program every building slightly, summer (and winter) from every window is descending cascades of flowers. Duomo (St. Peter), church St. Nicholas and a couple of churches, a theater right are historic treasures.
Piazza dei Signori is a wonderful space with charming restaurant Signore and Signori where you can drink excellent espresso, eat a delicious cake or pasta.
University Center is located on the banks of the river Sila is the foundation of a certain Count, is a part of the Padua university
Force rivers and canals are the most beautiful experience of Treviso with immaculately clean water on which float swans and ducks, bridges and promenade.
The population is very friendly, and there are plenty of interesting restaurants and shops for discerning. Treviso has city railway station and bus station not far from core and its own airport. By bus or by train will soon arrive to Venice, Padua, Vicenza, Verona.
Treviso is a city attractive to tourist vist and for permanent residence.

We used the city of Treviso as a base for visiting Venice as the prices of hotels in Venice were astronomical due to the bienniale. The train takes only 20/30 minutes and is regular from early until 11 when it stops for a couple of hours. Do not use bus as much more expensive and takes much longer. Good restaurant in this piazza.

Me and a friend went to Italy in the summer, and the purpose of the trip was to visit Venice. However, we stayed in Treviso which is just outside of Venice (short train journey). I am so glad we did as Treviso was beautiful to visit, especially the Piazza. Here we had dinner and some drinks one evening, followed by shopping in the streets just around the Piazza. I would recommend any tourists visiting Venice to make a trip to Treviso and take in the beauty of the town.

There are some nice places to eat and the waiters are quick and friendly. I could spend the whole afternoon there watching people walk by.
