Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

It was judged rightly, one of the most beautiful urban squares in the world.
Without a doubt it is one of the most characteristic and polychrome. A series of buildings and constructions of different shapes styles and colors.
We start from the Duomo the main monument, then the Palazzo Pretorio, the very high Civic Tower, the fascinating Fountain of Neptune, the frescoed Casa Cazuffi-Rella, porches, houses of different colors, shapes and heights, I enclose an almost perfect square space.
A great charm!

The fountain with Neptune in this piazza, is just incredible. Then the early 16th century frescoes of legendary pagan figures, the cathedral bell tower... everything is perfect!! When the bells start ringing, it's just a heavenly place.

Beautiful square bordered on 2 sides by the Duomo and the episcopal palace and the campanile in impeccable white stones. On the other 2 sides of beautiful houses including some with still paintings on the front. Superb central fountain. The interior of the cathedral is of relative interest (except for the 2 internal stairs to climb into the towers - closed). The streets around the square are lively and pleasant.

Piazza Duomo is a symbolic place of the personality of Trento. Only the Castello del Buon Consiglio (residence of the prince-bishops for centuries) can compete with it in this respect.
The most visible and leading element is the Duomo, delimiting the square on the south side. It's an unusual feature that the Duomo doesn't overlook the square, but presents its left side to it. The side is animated by a continuous row of Romanesque arches decorating the upper part of the side nave and the transept, by a prothyrum (open in the nave) and by a rose window on the transept. Over the whole, the lantern (rebuilt since 1882) looms.
On the east side, connected to the Duomo at an angle without interruption, is the Palazzo Pretorio, equipped with the high Torre Civica, much restored in its pure medieval forms, once the seat of the Municipality and other magistrates, today home to the rich collection of works of art of the Diocesan Museum.
The north and west sides are instead occupied by private mansions; nevertheless they are also very significant, because some of them are a good example of the early modern residences with painted facades, for which Trento is one of the most representative cities in Italy.
There is a letter from Bernardo Cles, bishop-prince, dated 1533, which documents the lord's wish to increase the painted facades in the city; and the effect of this wish, in Piazza Duomo as elsewhere in the city, is clearly visible. On the west and north sides of Piazza Duomo respectively, the painted facades of the Balduini house and of the porticoed Cazuffi houses stand out.
On the north side, Via Belenzani opens up, the widest in the old town, which gives the square additional airiness. The square is finally completed by the presence in its center of the "Neptune Fountain" from the mid-18th century.
There's enough, I would say, to define this square as the "living room" of the city of Trento.

In Trento, everything converges in this square and wide square, with the Duomo on one side, the Palazzo Pretorio on the other, and the palatial houses with colorful frescoes on the others. And in the middle the fountain of Neptune.
There is a row of red slabs that marks the Roggia Grande, a canal where clothes were previously washed and laid out in the square. This channel also marked the division between the spheres of civil and religious power in the city.

What an exceptional piazza. Everything you would expect- space, duomo, clock tower, fountain, cafes, lots of happy-looking people. Having visited dozens and dozens of such central squares in Italy we would rate this one right up there. We were driving from Lake Como to the Dolomites, and Trento makes a great lunch stop to stretch your legs.

Your first stop should be the heart of the city, Piazza Duomo. Stop under the Fontana del Nettuno and look around – on one side you will see the mountains intersected by the Cascata di Sardagna waterfall, on the other towers and historic palaces lined with battlements, which will transport you in the blink of an eye to the time of the famous Council of Trent. A visit to the square is the best way to get to know both sides of the city.

We visited this city and we loved specially the old town and this place with a very nice fountain in the middle. This place is the heart of the old town where everybody meets together. This place is very busy but it’s also a pedestrian area which is very pleasant. If you are in Trento you must absolutely visit this place.

I was left speechless by the beauty of Piazza Duomo, cleanliness, elegance, everything taken care of down to the smallest detail and care. The frescoed buildings in the square to be admired in all their beauty. I recommend everyone to visit it, it's really worth it.

Hi, my daughter and I are in Verona the 2nd week of January 2016 and were planning on a few day outings...would a daytrip by train to Trento be worthwhile? is there enough to do and see for a whole day? Or would Bolzana be a better bet?
thanks in advance for any advice?

5 hours in Trento. I'm going to visit piazza duomo for sure. Any other suggestions pls?
Written 14 July 2015
You can walk around the historical center called "giro al Sas" and also reach the Buonconsiglio Castle (1,5hr.). To visit the "muse" science museum you need 3 hr more. Dont' miss the "santa Maria Maggiore" Church near piazza duomo and the Cathedral.
