About
The Medieval Castle at the Valentino Park was built to host the Ancient Art section of the 1884 Turin Expo: along the Po river and surrounded by walls, the richly furnished castle rises above a small cluster of houses and workshop. The buildings and the decorations are faithful copies of 15th century castles as most indications for the furniture and the settings came from the Civic Museum of Ancient Art. Within this great exhibition, that was meant too promote the industrial, technological and bussiness development of the city, the medieval castle was intended as an educational and promotional tool.

An entirely fake medieval village which is nearly convincing! Most of it is closed off at the moment as they are doing a lot of renovations so there's not much to see. There are some public toilets (of dubious cleanliness) and a few souvenir and antique shops which are still accessible and if you have nothing else to do, it kills a bit of time bit it is a little way out of the city so not really worth the journey at the moment.

Although we knew the Borgo was a 19th century creation it was certainly possible to suspend belief and think it was “real” although I suspect the designers behind the Borgo had a slightly romanticised version of how comfortable the castle would have been! Entry was free with an optional tour (in Italian) of the castle for €5 - we were given booklets to read in advance over a coffee in the cafe. The tour took c. 45 minutes and gave a glimpse of how the lord would have lived. There were also various shops in the Borgo specialising in medieval clothing, weaponry and chain mail. This was a really handy stop for us as it was very near our hotel and we followed it up by a leisurely walk along the Po into the centre.

Borgo Medievale is a real life size and very truthful replica of a medieval village. It's situated in the beautiful Valentino park by the river Po and was built for 1884 world expo.
It's all in a theme park style and considered the predecessor of them, but don't expect any rides here. Entrance is free.
Few cafes and eateries close by.

It is funny how a joke among late 1800's poets became some sort of statement in the green lung of Turino.
Simple as that: a bunch of poets made a bet, assuming it was funny and socially interesting to reconstruct a village that would work and function like in the Middle Ages.
Since then, the Village serves as a little tourist trap and resembles a silly masquerade in a time and a place where ancient culture still exists and gives a vibrant proof of its existence just being there, gratis et amore for the sake of our spoiled Italian self, so no need to copycat Vegas in building some stupid fake crap.
At least Vegas has Casinos and beautiful shows.

Artificially medieval but also historic in it's own right, it serves a purpose in geting you out of the city and walking through a lovely park. Better still, take the riverside walk back into town. Charming.

This looks like a Disney medieval village. Shops selling tat and overpriced drinks.toilets disgusting holes in the floor ( not trying to be medieval either!) tour of the 'castle' ( they're having a laugh surely) in Italian only with English notes. The medicinal garden is like a very badly kept allotment. Overgrown and it's where you're abandoned at the end of the tour. Don't bother going.

Although built in the late 19th century, this lovely place captures the (albeit more sterile) feel of a place many centuries before. The friendly guides on weekends are all dressed in period clothing and the narrow alleys, are filled with old shop displays that showed how people lived back then.
The Castello itself is really, really nice. Situated right along the Po at the south end of Valentino Park, it's a great place to check out.
I agree with the others, it's a fantastic thing to do early on a Sunday morning just after you've had your coffee and a pastry.

I must admit to being candidly awestruck by the ingenuity of the Borgo Medievale, a make-believe historical reconstruction of a Piedmontese medieval village, carefully set up in 1884 for the Exhibition of Turin. It encapsulates all the characteristics of a miniature medieval city but consciously including the metaphors of fairy-tales and of story-telling. The visitor is simply carried away by the elaborate reproduction of medieval life, helped by the ambience of the antique souvenir shops selling old books to hand crafted artefacts in keeping with the age of the rise of the cities. It couldn’t serve as a better set for the making of a film based in that romantic epoch, I couldn’t help thinking of Romeo and Juliet All this could be enjoyed after a walk by the waterside of the Po leading first to Parco Valentino and then to the pleasant discovery of the Borgo, which keeps a humble low profile on the banks of the river and the wooded landscape. One would certainly enjoy bringing the kids here as much as the locals enjoy it for memorable photo-shoots like wedding albums.

You can walk round part of the medieval attraction for free but pay for the castle tour. There were only 4 of us in the group and though in Italian a booklet in english is provided. Although the castle in not an original building many of its features are based on other castles in the area.The guide explained how life would have been in medieval times. I had no idea that when it was meal time all the food was left on the tables and people helped themselves as servants werent allowed in the room with the masters.She also explained that the squirrels who run about in the adjoining Valentina park like to sleep in the castle.I think alot more could be done to this attraction as the shops arent very inviting and some demonstrations of ancient crafts and skills would add to the experience.But we enjoyed the tour and included in our tourist pass.

The Valentino Park in which this is situated is one of the best parks we have ever seen. Not so big, but just the right size for families, beautiful water bodies,the best fountain we have seen anywhere in Europe, including in Rome. Fountain of the 12 months and different types of trees, a beautiful river flowing past the garden.
But Borgo Medievale itself is a great idea but a lot of attractions are closed, like the shops that should be showing how they produce goods, and the house that is shown doesn't have that much of a lived-in feeling. It could be improved.

ciao, non ci sono aree attrezzate, ma ci sono ampi spazi verdi dove potersi sedere e gustare il proprio pic nic ammirando il fiume Po e la meraviglia del verde; gli scoiattoli spesso fanno incursione. Inoltre ci sono varie panchine dislocate in tutta l'area verde circostante.

We went to the Borgo on a Sunday and a Monday. Sunday we got to see all the vendors and shops in the Rocca and got to tour the Borgo. Monday everything was closed inside the Rocca and no tour, but we were able to really see the village area clearly without all the crowd. We then went on the roundtrip boat ride on the River Po, amazing!

Alle spalle c'è un posteggio, proprio in mezzo al parco del Valentino. Dal posteggio si vede bene il il borgo che ha 3 entrate, una vicino al posteggio, l'altra lungo il fiume e l'ingresso principale (le ultime due non accessibili ad auto). Si accede da viale Stefano Turr e poi a destra in viale Enrico Millo. Alla fine del viale c'è il posteggio e sono 3' a piedi dal Borgo.
