This town square is signficant in size.

I loved how trams travelled under one colonnade.

It's extremely picturesque even though it's only named after a battle that took place 105 years ago in 2018.

The River Po is close by.

Soak up the atmosphere here.

I hadn't been to Turin previously but found it a terrific city to visit, not just full of history but far less crowded than my repeat visits to Rome and Venice. It was the highlight (in cities) of our 10 days or so in Italy while on excellent Global Eurailpasses.

Not as fancy as Vendome In Paris but had that feeling of the main plaza near the main attractions… Must be the size of
San Marcos square in Venice or costa del
Sol in Madrid or main plaza in Salamanca … huge..I thought san Carlo was big until I got here . Beautiful shady stroll
From
Palazzo Reale to the Po .

This grand square, and the biggest in Turin and in Europe probably, is the natural extension of the Via Po at its lower end just next to the River Po. It is circled by buildings of beautiful architecture, lots of cafeterias and small restaurants where to stop for a break before you continue roaming the banks of the Po or exploring Turin depending on the direction you head for. There is an awesome view, particularly at night, of the Parish Church of Gran Madre di Dio, right across the river.

We literally stumbled into this massive square by accident one evening.
Having had our diner at a cheap & cheerful Thai place nearby, we decided to take a different route back to the hotel.
Turin is amazing; you can walk around for miles & there is so much to see.
This has to be one of the largest old squares in Europe.

I particularly wanted to see Piazza Vittorio in Torino and when I was recently in the city I was able to pay a visit. The piazza has commanding views of the River Po and was every bit as enchanting as I expected it to be. The piazza was named after the Battle of Vittorio Veneto of 1918.

I visited shortly after Covid-19 lockdown restrictions were eased and the whole area was incredibly quiet and completely devoid of tourists. I was impressed with Piazza Vittorio Veneto, it is one of the many sights to be seen in the city.

A very big square, with nice buildings on 3 sides and the Po river on the fourth one. The impressive church Gran Madre di Dio can be seen on the other side of the river as well as other nice buildings.

This is Torino, the old capital of Italy (during the Monarch). Exactly this picture is taken in Piazza Vittorio, from the bridge you could appreciate the Gran Madre Church.
