The Museo delle Antichità Egizie is the only museum other than the Cairo Museum that is dedicated solely to Egyptian art and culture. Many international scholars, since the decipherer of Egyptian hieroglyphs Jean-François Champollion, who came to Turin in 1824, spend much time pouring over the collections. It was Champollion who famously wrote, “The road to Memphis and Thebes passes through Turin”.The collections that make up today’s Museum, were enlarged by the excavations conducted in Egypt by the Museum’s archaeological mission between 1900 and 1935 (a period when finds were divided between the excavators and Egypt). The Egyptian Museum in Turin has begun 2009 an important project which wants to widen spaces in order to enhance the collections through modern museographical and museological criteria. The Museum will be open all over the period of restoration and the New Egyptian Museum inauguration is scheduled for the year 2015.

I like museums in moderation, and this one looked good from the description. I was completely overwhelmed by the quality and quantity of the artifacts. I have never seen so much, so well preserved, and well presented tombs, mummies, paintings, parchments, statues etc. from that...More

This is the first museum I have visited in years and it was excellent. It is easy to find and if you're going the morning there are some restaurants nearby worth visiting as well.

We had an early morning visit. 1. Be aware that the museum is massive, you could easily spend several hours up to one day there. Plan your visit accordingly to see the most important things. 2. The audio guide is actually a video guide, you...More

Anyone with an interest in Egyptian history and archaeology will love this museum. Wouldn't recommend for kids, it's a mature museum, good for thinking and appreciating the past. I think this is a great thing, though, and was glad it didn't pander to children or...More

Is the second visit after over 15 years, they made massive changes and made the experience more interesting. There is a new "path" that guide you through the History of Egypt and the changes with the burial methods and arts. In some rooms the path...More

Who would know that Turin would house the best Egyptian collection outside of Egypt. Well laid out with an excellent audio program included in the entrance fee. There is even a family/child audio program choice which makes it good for preteens and teens. However it's...More

I had lopw expectations due to the fact that Italians tend to overstate the size and quality of their museums but this one was excellent Well laid out, great displays and artefacts.

Hi, Am planning to visit Tuesday 9th or Wednesday 10th with a Torino+ card. I am a bit worried to hear about the length of the queues - some reviewers talk about hours. Are the queues shorter at 0900 or later in the day? Thanks, Max
