We went through the station twice. Both times we found it very difficult to navigate, especially dragging luggage and occassionally having to backtrack because the signage was so poor. We really had to ask people often about where we were trying to go. But if you have the time, it's a nice place to get lost in maybe to stay out of the rain.

The station is a couple of things. It was easy to navigate after arriving which was a benefit. It is also the most immense and gorgeously styled buiding. As a total vanity project by Mussolini it has left a stunning looking building.

In a few short years this magnificent railway station will be 100 years old. From any angle outside, the building is mammoth. The best photos are from the mammoth Plaza Duca d'Aosta, with heritage trams adding to the atmosphere. With 24 platforms, the railway facilities are immense, and thankfully well used. The glass and steel arched roof makes for beautiful photographs. Train information is adequate. The grand staircases are terrific. The station is complex to navigate. I had to use it a couple of times prior to becoming even slightly familiar with it. Strangely tickets for Trennord's Malpensa Airport Express train (the best way to reach the airport) can only be purchased from a ticket machine on platform 3, which is quite a walk from the commencement of most of the platforms. As expected in Europe, there is shopping and dining on multiple levels. Travelators assist in conveying patrons. The biggest secret must be the supermarket in the basement. This is a great way to save money. It even has a fair range of Italian chocolates, ideal as gifts as they are not bulky. The excellent Milan Metro is easily reached downstairs. On two sides, there are trams outside the station.

After arriving in Milan-Malpensa and clearing the maze of shops, hallways, ID checks, and personal and baggage inspections we tried to find the train to Milan Centrale and finally decided to take the bus (10 euro each). 30 minutes later we arrived at the railroad station and the large plaza in front of it. We used the high speed trains to go to Firenze Santo Maria Novella, and to the Venezia Santa Lucia stations. The Milan Centrale station is large, has a ton of shopping area, and connects to the city's Metro (subway) services. It is central to the Last Supper and many other attractions, and there are several hotels (we stayed at the Glam) and restaurants within easy walking distance. But, like the other stations we were at, there is a lack of public seating and this can become a problem for someone that is classified as handicapped or a Senior, or has pets or children with him or her. There is a large plaza in front of the station, and to the Northeastern side there is a boarding / drop off area for dozens of Tour Buses. The buses though may not like the location as to get to the main highways is a chore as each has to go through narrow and congested streets for several minutes.

As the central train hub of Milan, the area around Milano Centrale is probably the best to stay during your Milan trip for ease of travelling to/from other Italian or European cities, within Milan via its efficient Metro network, or to/from the airport via the Malpensa Express. Outwardly, the Art Deco building may not be as impressive as other European cities’ central train station, but its interior does give you the wow factor with its majestically high ceilings and intricately decorated walls and columns. As with any busy hub, one would expect some level of chaotic and frenetic activities in the station, but it is surprisingly easily navigable, and despite comments about pickpockets and muggers, we did not encounter any such incidences and felt safe throughout our time spent in the station. There are many cafe and trattoria within the station and its vicinity, which provides convenience in filling your stomach or simply getting a cuppa before boarding your train. Connectivity, convenience, comfort…. you can choo-choo your way to a memorable Milan experience.

Milano Centrale is a good train station to use when traveling through northern Italy. My wife and I arrived at the Milan Airport to start our wedding anniversary trip this past August. We took the express into Milano Centrale to catch the train to Zurich. We had time for a coffee in one of the shops before catching our train. The boards were easy to read and we easily made it to our platform in time for our departure. The station was designed by Mussolini but does not contain the brutalist that much of his architecture is known for. It is the largest in size of all train stations in Europe and the second busiest next to Paris. We found the station easy and convenient to use.

Arrived from Trieste on the high speed train in the evening went out in minutes to face a long queue for taxis as it seemed other public transport services were on strike. My wait time was about 50 minutes. The next day attended a business meeting at the station, had a detailed tour tried a restaurant then dessert shop, wine bar and coffee at "il mercato Central ". I even had an eye sight check, bought new glasses and enjoyed my long hours & this remarkable, historic building

This is an imposing building. Inside the train platforms are Level 2, US 3. Elevators, moving sidewalks and stairs can get you there. Ticket machines look easy to use…for English, press the British flag. Recommend!

Milano Centrale railway station connects Milan by rail to Italy's cities and international destinations, including the European Union and Switzerland. It is the largest European station by volume. The connection to neighboring Turin is high speed; there are connected to nearby airports. Milano Centrale's historic facade is attention grabbing. By the way, rail is a convenient and affordable way to get from northern Milan to destinations in the Italian peninsula.

This is a large train station and an attractive building in its own right, as is often the case in Italy. Everything is clearly signposted in Italian and English. Ticket office, self-service machines (not only for Trenitalia, the Italo company also has both ticket options), departure board, plenty of eateries, shops, etc. Annoyingly the authorities have installed barriers before the platforms where you have to scan your ticket, and the barriers will only let you through a few minutes before your train leaves.
