Why visit a cemetery when you’re on vacation, you ask? The tombs at this Milan burial ground offer a great glimpse of Italian artistic styles from the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

It hard to put this into words. It’s huge, and a bit overwhelming. I advise you take a picture of the map at the entrance to help you move around. We entered and went up the left side – it was nice, we but were like “what is the fuss about with this place?” Then we came around the building... More

Via metro line 3, stop 'Monumental', it's very easy to reach this cemetery. Oringinally it was supposed to be a place for all Milanese people, but it's more a place where the richer families of Milan built there mausoleums which are mini versions of Greek temples, Byzantian churches and modern skyscrapers. It feels like an open air museum and it's... More

It's so massive that we did not even get to complete the round. by the half of the cemetery round, we started getting achy.. it's amazing and beautiful as the graves have their own story to tell.

I have visited in my life a lot of cemeteries but this one is outstanding. Never saw that much, that big, that expensive crypts. Don't think this is or was a good trend but it is overwhelming.

I have never seen something similar, extraordinary. The cemetery is occupied by beautiful tombs and tomb houses of Milan families. You may free your imagination and image about the lives of these dead people and the appreciation which relatives have put onto these valuable and artistic creations on different centuries. I would estimate millions of euros/lires has been invested in... More

We only did a part of it because it's pretty big and that we had only 2 days to visit Milan.Even if it's not in the center, I recommend you to visit it because it appeared to me as a free museum.

You could spend hours walking around the graves and monuments in the cemetery. It does not feel sad or gloomy to be there at all. It's just incredible the number and quality of the tombs that have been built there through time. An absolutely fascinating place. Do not miss it!!!

Surrounding it are large towers that define Piazza Gae Aulenti, where the fountain and the Monumento Trombe leave one breathless. A famous building of the district is the Vertical Forest, where the innovative materials and trees planted on the terraces are a unique mix of nature and man-made construction. In the district, there is the Monumental Cemetery, known for its antique tombs with sculptures portraying angels of commemorative scenes many will find touching.
