Top ways to experience Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II
The area
Address
Neighbourhood: Centro Storico
The pulsating core of Milan is in Centro. Duomo Square is enclosed by the gothic cathedral, the historic icon of Milan. However, shopping is what draws most crowds to this area. The classy and versatile Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II with luxury boutiques and high quality restaurants will turn any shopping or lunch expedition into a royal experience. Head to the rooftop of the flagship La Rinascente to enjoy the view of the animated square with a panorama of the Duomo. The Corso Vittorio Emanuele II is the street for high-end shopping. Brands of all kinds and street artists attract the attention of all visitors; while at Via Santa Radegonda 16, Luini Panzerotti is a much appreciated street food shop providing unimaginable culinary experiences. If shopping takes its toll on you, consider visiting Castello Sforzesco, a 15th century castle housing several museums. Those looking to relax can go to Parco Sempione, where nature provides respite from the energy of this dynamic and international city.

- Paulista668317 contributionsWorld classiest shopping mallClassiest shopping mall in the world. You can´t visit Milan and not come here. It´s a modern shrine to fashion and design which explains the wannabe models dressed to kill being filmed against the big name windows even in the freezing cold. Shopping is not really my scene but it has two decent bookshops, including Feltrineli, which both have good English selections. Sky high prices in bars and restaurants so check around. There are plenty of cheaper places nearby. It´s also facing the Scala Opera House on one side and, of course, The Duomo on the other. It must be the classiest shopping mall in the world.Visited December 2022Written 6 December 2022
- Lee S3 contributionsFancyIncredible architecture. Stunning design. This is where the beautiful and the rich come to shop. Which for me, is part of the problem. It’s so sad to see people display their wealth when others are really struggling right now. Such is life.Visited January 2023Written 31 December 2022
- MenekagHo Chi Minh City, Vietnam1,405 contributionsFabulous for shoppingAbsolutely loved this mall which looks stunning just to walk through. Of course it was super busy and buzzing with all the high end brands having shops right around. This is a shoppers paradise or even for window shopping and feasting your eyesVisited February 2023Travelled soloWritten 25 February 2023

Beautiful everything from the architect, flooring, Brand stores, elegant restaurants,,,, What a fun day! - Sanjay SMumbai, India307 contributionsHigh end Shopping mallA top notch high end brands right opposite Duomo. If you are a budget buyer then probably move a little on outskirts of this area in 1 km radius you may get some good brands and deal. The perfume market in Rinascente Plaza next to galleria is worth spending a few dollars.Visited March 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 23 March 2023
- mulder512017Donauworth, Germany345 contributionsCrowded placeCrowded and the shops and restaurants are at luxury level and accordingly expensive. The main attraction in the middle under the dome is hardly accessible. Too many people. As a result, there is also a very high noise level here.Visited April 2023Written 11 April 2023
- AllanJGJWellington, New Zealand3,824 contributionsAlways a joy to see this brilliant piece of architectureA compulsory stop for anyone on their first visit to Milan - literally only a one minute walk from the Duomo. Some nice shops and cafes and of course on any and every visit to Milan you have to spin around three times on the oversized genitalia of the bull in the floor to bring you good luck. On a more serious note do have a good look around you including upwards; this neo-renaissance building is one of the finest 19th century iron-framed buildings and one of the earliest shopping plazas in Europe. A quite fabulous piece of architecture.Visited April 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 20 April 2023
- Emily BMonticello, Iowa6 contributionsThe center of the fashion world! If you truly want to feel that you are at the center of the world of fashion, head to the center of the Galleria and take a spin. You'll see every high fashion/couture brand represented. Be sure to visit both day and night to see its beauty lit up. It is an incredibly busy throughway so just beware of the crowds. If you're looking for high end shopping or a Michelin star bite to eat, this is the place to be. For a more affordable fashion souvenir, head to the Piumelli shop. The gentlemen there are incredibly friendly and helpful with great quality Italian leather products.Visited April 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 29 April 2023
- steveslaterReno, Nevada73 contributionsMagical nightA must see in Milan. The original Fratelli Prada is located here. Also, find the bull on the floor and put your heel in and spin three times counter clockwise for good luck! This place at night is magical. All high end stores and experiences. Great restaurants overlooking it.Visited May 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 13 May 2023
- Bill CVancouver, Canada4,282 contributionsOldest Active Shopping MallThe Galleria Vittoria Emanuele II is the oldest active shopping mall in the world. The beautiful iron and glass ceiling is quite impressive. The mosaics on the floor complement the ceiling. The mall is about half way between La Scala and the Duomo di Milano. The mall is a short walk from La Scala and from the Duomo di Milano.Visited March 2023Written 30 May 2023

Very impressive architecture and worth a quick visit after the cathedral. We were here mid-day so many people were eating lunch and it wasn't as packed walking around looking at the expensive designer shops that I wish I could afford.

It was a great experience and great exploring if you can cope with chaos and have a lot of time. Many brand name shops around and great restaurants near by shop until you drop than take a sit have a glass of white wine or champagne.
Overall, new experience for me.

The glass and iron roof is pretty. If you want to spin on the bull, there's likely a wait (and hard to spin because there's basically a hole in the floor from so many people doing it). We found it crowded and noisy with very expensive shops, so left after a brief look. If time is limited, spend it elsewhere.

After a contemplative adjacent visit to Milan's Catholic Cathedral, I had no interest in over-the-top consumerism marked by incredibly expensive high-end shopping, but nonetheless enjoyed walking through this incre4dibly beautiful street with its magnificent glass roof.
Splendid architecture, although the presence of McDonalds to the side felt and looked incongruous.
It had been raining but thankfully there was no evidence of roof leaks.

Even if you are not going to visit any of the shops it is worth seeing the vastness of this shoppping centre. The name shopping centre does not get close to describing just how amazing this place is. Go and marvel at the sheer scale.

Great Milanese cuisine and ambience. I ordered the Risotto Milanese - yellow saffron, sausage with red wine, and Peach mousse.
Friendly and prompt service. They politely ask us if we can finish by 10 pm as they have block booking for the performers from nearby theater.

You will find high end stores and restaurants here. The architecture features are amazing and worth walking through the large crowds to take in the sights.

You could always go online and check out the UK prices of what you want to buy before you travel to Milan. The £ has fallen so you may find some saving.
