Piazza Sordello is the most beautiful square in all of Lombardy. Here you can still feel the atmosphere of the times when Mantua was the capital of a duchy. The cobblestone pavement does not make it easy to walk around but with a little effort it is still worth a visit, if only to access the ducal palace whose entrance is right on the square.

Great piazza in the middle of the Mantua. Very beautiful. It has also restaurants, cafes and iconic buildings to visit.

This huge Piazza with the Duomo and Ducal Palace down one end and the entrance through to the Piazza delle Erbe at the other is a superb space at any time, even when empty as it has been when we have visited before. But this time the Piazza was the starting point for a huge rally of vintage cars and there were almost 200 cars (and a lot more people!) everywhere. Absolutely brilliant!

Interesting square surrounded by architecturally beautiful buildings. There are a number of cafés and restaurants that provide the perfect opportunity to watch the world go by or people watching. At the time of our visit there as an artist displaying work in the square and this added further colour to the square.

Big square, close to the palace pf the duke. Quite extended. Not the nicest I have ever seen but certainly interesting.

A perfect place to rest and people watch. Our group had lunch at several different places. Everyone was satisfied with their meal. The people passing around and thru the Piazza was varied and eclectic.

Piazza Sordello is the main and oldest square of Mantua. It is always bustling with locals and visitors alike. Also on the square are the Palazzo Ducale, the Cathedral of St. Peter and The Torre della Gabbia. The piazza is dedicated to the poet Sordello da Goito, who was cited by Dante in the Divine Comedy. Once a week there is an open market here.

Explore piazza Sordello any time of the day and experience its perfect proportions and airy feel. Planked by the Palazzo Ducale and the Palazzo Castiglioni (a highly recommended boutique hotel), it offers beautiful views.

The ensemble of the square was mainly formed in the Middle Ages, around the XIV century, although the bell tower of the cathedral was built earlier. Naturally, the area did not remain unchanged. The political center was the Captain's Palace, which was then incorporated into the Doge's Palace under the Dukes of Gonzaga. On the opposite side are the three palaces Palazzo Acerbi, Palazzo Castiglioni and the former episcopal palace Palazzo Bianchi. The last significant changes took place in the facade of the cathedral, which was rebuilt into a Baroque appearance in the middle of the XVIII century. The result is a not too harmonious eclectic square.

Lovely big Piazza with a few retaurants in one corner, My only critivìc would be it needs more lights at night as the Palazzo would be so much more photogenic
