This is a beautiful of city with its upper and lower levels and stone Venetian walls. From Cinta Muraria di Bergamo you get a good appreciation of the lower part of the town. The best way to see the area is by walking both up and down the hill.

A must in Bergamo with hundreds of spots for great photos. Some parts were being renovated when we visited.

We took bus No A1 from opossite the train station, to the old town and got off at the end of the route at ''Colle Aperto''. Turning left we saw the sign to San Vigilio funicular but didn't have enough time. So, we started walking downwards throught the old city, found Piazza Vecchia and lower we stopped at this beautiful... More

Walked part of the way on the walls and were rewarded with beautiful views of the lower town as well as an appreciation of what walled cities were like. Don't think you will be able to circumnavigate the upper town in a short time frame as the distances are further than you think. If you get tired, just bail out... More

This city we heave never visited before although we travel Italy already over 30 years. Its is a lovely town with the old city in top of a hill. The acces is easy by using cablecars. The town has a lot of old buildings and the architecture is interesting. The Town is suitable to stay for a couple of days... More

I had naively thought I could walk along the top of the walls but generally they slope away downhill, so a lot of the time you are walking along a road.

It is the best way to see the town and the area. It is free to walk but take you time. To walk all around the old town walls you need at least 45 minutes. On sundays sometimes very crowded due to the lot's of locals that are walking there too.

These walls are in amazing condition and absolutely enormous. They are probably the reason that Citta Alta still exists as it does. We walked around them in the heat but there is a little bus that you can take around them in more comfort!

if you stay in Bergamo for more days, or if you already saw all you wanted on your walk from the cablecar station up the cobblestone streets of the old city, then the walk from the upper end of Bergamo Alto outside along the city walls is a nice and easy stroll. It will take you some half an hour... More

La mura di Bergamo is the perfect place to walk in the afternoon, you can get a great view of both Cittá alta and cittá bassa. The locals usually go there to run, so is a very vibrant place. The recommendation is to get to Cittá alta by bus or funicular, and then go down to the city by walking... More
