Beautiful church
Jun. 2021 • Couples
This is a very nice church in the heart of the village. It is the only church I have ever seen with black and white stripes. It is worth stopping to go inside of.

Very nice typical church in the old town
Aug. 2019 • Family
Chiesa di San Giovanni Battista is the main church located in the old town of Monterosso al Mare, one of five towns in Cinque Terre National Park, in the North of Italy. You can see it, when you walk around this very nice old town, it is a very beautiful church with a main facade in white and black typical in some parts of Italy. Very nice.

Fascinating facade
Feb. 2020 • Couples
The church was constructed under Genoese maritime republic rule between 1244 and 1307. It is a splendid example of Ligurian Gothic architecture with its alternating black and white stripes of marble and serpentinite. The church's facade presents a notably large rose window above the entrance door. The interior is black and white marble and houses a collection of sculptures and paintings.

Nice Catholic church downtown
Oct. 2019
This Catholic church is located downtown Monterosso. The black and white facade makes it very easy to find. It has a gorgeous rose window above the main arched entrance. Once you get inside, you will see the black & white columns and a very ornate alter. The church can seem as if it doesn't have much originality, but it is very old and definitely worth a look.

A Characteristic Black and White Church
Nov. 2019
This Catholic Church was built in 13 to 14 century and restored in 1963 to 1964. The church has the distinct characteristic black and white marble striped facade with a large rose carved in a white marble window above the door. Even the interior columns and floor are in black and white. That is very unique. We went there before 10 am one November morning. I guess we were the first two there. We had the whole church to our selves.  Happy Travelling!

Definitely worth a look inside!
Oct. 2019
The church is black and white stripped outside. Inside there are black and white arches. The altar is pretty as is the statue of the Pieta along with a statue of Mary and a Saint. Otherwise the church is rather plain. However, it is worth a look inside.

Beautiful Church in Monterosso al Mare
Sep. 2019
As we were heading back through the old town to the train station, we stopped in here for a look. A very beautiful church with some interesting interior decorations.

A nice small church and oratorio
Oct. 2019
We were walking in the centre of Monterosso when we found this nice old church. It was built about 1240-1300 in Gothic style. I liked the black-and-white pillars, the rose-window and the marble statues. It's free, so it's worth to visit it for some minutes.

Sunday Mass 6:00 pm
Sep. 2019
We arrived in Monterosso Sunday afternoon and asked at our hotel where we might find a Catholic Mass. We were told that there was a 6:00 pm Mass every Sunday. It was wonderful and in Italian. The priest gave everyone communion on the tongue and it was given in both species the Precious Body and Blood!!!! Absolutely perfect way to begin our vacation in Cinque Terre!

Beautiful small church in the Borgo Antico of Monterosso al Mare
Nov. 2018
The beautiful small church in the Borgo Antico of Monterosso al Mare is deceiving in its simple appearance from the outside. In the interior it is more ornate. The rose stained glass window above the entrance lets in some gorgeous diffused light. My wife and I visited during the off season this past November and were the only ones in the church building.
