We came for the trails and we went home happy :-) The views are all around amazing, the trails are fun, some require a bit more strength and endurance, and if it's sunny don't forget to bring lots of water with you,and a walking stick would be recommended too!

I am an avid hiker, back packer, and mountain climber. And I have enjoyed these activities in some of the world's most spectacular locations including Alaska, Argentina, Tanzania, Bolivia, and elsewhere. With that background I must say that hiking trail #2 along the coast in Cinque Terre was scenic, but vastly overcrowded and overrated. I thought that the terrific views... More

Here's some hopefully helpful tips for hiking the Cinque Terre trails: 1) Don't go in summer - it's hot and busy, busy, busy! Also avoid national holiday weekends. 2) Hike north to south - the views are better. 3) Investigate buying a daily Cinque Terre Card if you're going to do a lot of hiking. 4) Remember the trails extend... The only bits of the Cinque Terre trails that are open at the moment ( and for the foreseeable future) are the two steepest and longest hikes. No one tells you this even when you get there, it's only when you try to access the coastal walks that you find there's a small notice on the locked gates everywhere. Supposedly... More

Cinque Terre consists of 5 coastal villages: Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola & Riomaggiore. The various hiking trails interconnect the 5 villages so theoretically if you're energetic enough you could hike and see all 5 in a day but I would recommend taking your time, splitting the hike into a couple of days and enjoy the views and the spend some... The trail from Riomaggiore to Monterroso gave us a chance to admire superb scenery. The access is not easy, I would not recommend it for people with health issues, as help would be hard to get. There are lots of portions of the trail with steep stairs, it really is physically challenging since the trail climbs all the way from... More

This was the start of our Cinque Terre Trek day tour where we walked from Manarola to Corniglia, following the 592-2 (SVA2) trail. It was a relatively easy hike, though the downpour on the day of our hike made it slightly more difficult in some parts. The views on offer here were breathtaking and definitely worth the effort. The beautiful... More

We really enjoyed the 1.1 mile hike over the mountain. It's steep but the views are well worth the distance. Pack some water and get ready for the gelato on the other side, you will deserve the extra scoop.

These towns are so colourful, we followed the scenic trail from Corniglia, where we had lunch on a lovely terrace overlooking the town and hiked to Vernazza. The area is natural and untouched, with few hand rails or safety rails, and paths often cut close to the cliff's edge. The challenging 2 hr walk, up and down many steps is... More
