About
The Albinelli Market keeps alive the tradition and heritage of the ancient market that since the Middle Ages has spiced up the streets and squares of Modena, safeguarding the city cultural and nutritional values and the personal and close customer relationship that has always characterized the retail sale. With the October 28th, 1931 new Market inauguration, Modena retail trade left piazza Grande, the original location which hosted it for centuries. The vendors who moved in became stable retailers, leaving behind their previous experience as street vendors for good. Now it is the beating heart of the city of Modena, appreciated by citizens and by visitors the possibility to identify and sample the Modena traditional culinary ingredients and dishes

Very nice mercato where you can shop Modena , Emilia-romagna delicacies but also sit and eat Modena plates with extremely high quality but with more economic options. Unusual, this century-old market is a marvel where colors, smells and smiles mingle. You can find everything there, you can also eat local and fresh products and admire the old marble fish stalls. I recommend eating at Antica Bottega to eat near the famous fish stalls and enjoy the history of this market that the waiter will be happy to share.

During a visit to Modena, in addition to the Casa Ferrari museum, walking vs. The city center, we came across this characteristic market delimited in an original building and with a beautiful gate. Inside, in addition to the classic fruit and vegetable, meat and fresh fish stalls, there are catering and sales points for Modena specialties, such as balsamic vinegar and fresh filled pasta and other typical products. In the catering outlets it is possible to taste local specialities, such as tigelle and cured meats and excellent white and red wines from Lambrusco to Pignoletto. Banquets which are ideal points for a short stop with a snack or a "quick" lunch at the table to break up the day by tasting excellent products. It recalls in a "small" way other famous markets, in Paris or Barcelona or the equally well-known market in Florence.
Excellent solution, given the little time needed to visit to see something alternative and perhaps purchase food and wine products. Highly recommended.

It's not very big, but it's fun to look around. There are a variety of shops for each category, and there are also restaurants where you can have lunch. Although they are open until 3 p.m., many places close at 2 p.m. We recommend arriving by 1 o'clock.

The market is very pleasant, colorful and with quality products. Negative note: I purchased some chocolates at counter no. 95 by spending 51.95 (so not exactly a negligible expense). I was told the cost was "rounded" to 52 euros. Now, it's not that for 5 cents I'm going to start an argument but it really seemed like a small gesture to me... Usually the shopkeeper, if he really has to round it up, does it downwards. Perhaps realizing the indelicacy, they "offered" me a chocolate, another gesture that I didn't appreciate (since, among other things, I paid for the chocolate). It wasn't the first time I used this counter, which among other things has very good products, but I won't go back again, I'll definitely find other more welcoming sweets shops in Modena.

The market was created to relocate the stalls that previously crowded Piazza Grande, and thanks to this happy intuition, today we have a new point of interest in the city center. The market is not very large, but remains a nice feature of the city. Personally I was struck by the characteristic wrought iron gate.

we passed several years ago in this structure in the heart of the center of Modena. But we still have fond memories: passing through the stalls, the scents of cured meats, cheeses, fresh fruit and vegetables that inspired and quenched our appetite. The Art Nouveau taste of the structure harks back to ancient times, where everything was more genuine and spontaneous. Yes, definitely a nice memory

I always love going to all the different markets when I travel and this one didn’t disappoint. Fresh fruits, meats, cheese, fish, pastas, bakery items, side dishes, this market has it all plus many restaurants to try. It’s always a pleasure to walk around and soak in the local experience.
There are a number of places to eat and I would recommend 2 restaurants to try in the market. Balsamico e Cucina – Monari Federzoni & Da Sergio "Abruzzo e le sue meraviglie " both are good for lunch or an afternoon snack.
Great place to purchase gifts for the people back home.

Modena Central Market, a must-see in this city of good eating and drinking. Vegetable, meat and fish stalls; also prepared meals or fresh pasta, in some of these stalls you are heated or prepared pasta and you can eat it right there. I recommend walking, seeing all the stalls and taking you some souvenirs: some Parmesan, a bottle of Modena vinegar.

Buon giorno,

Is it possible to taste the product infront of buying? Only mean, not buy a pig in a poke.
Written 17 August 2019
of course it is possible to taste many of the products. Just ask to the vendor and you will have your chance to choose the best
Written 18 August 2019
My dear, not much. Museums and some restaurants. The Market is open from Mondays to Saturdays. The shops are owned by little entrepreneurs who run the business by themselves. It means that it is impossible to be opened 7 days a week, but we are more than happy to welcome you any time.
