Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What an amazing find!

Over 100 local Italians enjoying each other's company; we were the only tourists, which we love! What makes this place unique is people bring their own food to share with their friends. We saw people enjoying homemade cooking, pizzas bought elsewhere and birthday cake :-)

Drinks were very cheap and the service was friendly and really quick. Will be back there again tomorrow.

Wish we had found a place like this in Verona and Florence...

Osteria del Sole is worth experiencing. It is well known by the locals. It’s famous for the famous people that have visited it in the past. You buy your drinks and you can bring in outside food. If you don’t mind sitting in a crowded space, at a table with strangers, you will totally enjoy this novel place.

A unique place to bring your own food & enjoy wine at a good price. There is no sign out front & it is very old school. I would bet nothing has changed in numerous decades. Friendly people & locals enjoying their sandwiches or other food they have brought with them. The gentlemen seem all to be old friends that probably go there every day.

A true Osteria in every aspect. A place where you order wine, beer, spritz, grab your glasses and bring your own food if you like. A great communal experience where people are enjoying cheap drinks in an authentic, old osteria

Emailed to book a table for lunch as thought it would be busy after being visited by Rick Stein but it was unnecessary. It's really tucked away and took us a couple of passes to locate the right doorway! It's the oldest osteria in Bologna and has a nice atmosphere but the drinks are nothing special. They don't do food so picked up a great sandwich from the deli on the corner.

Was incredibly disappointing. Most everything in Bologna was. We went, expecting to just love it for the size, the population, photos we’d seen. We seemed to be in the worst part of town although roaming around quite a bit didn’t prove to be much better. It’s an older (I normally love older cities) citiy but tattered in a neglected sort of way. Food was abysmal. We didn’t think it possible to have a bad meal in Italy. In Bologna, we could not find a good one. Go to Pietrasanta (smaller) or even Milan. Milan is so much bigger but every inch is just beautiful.

Its not an osteria, regardless of the name -- its a wine bar -- but its been there in Bologna's Quadrilatero neighborhood since 1465, which in itself is reason enough to go. The crowds are local, the wine is delicious, and its always packed. Don't miss it!

As an Englishman I feel safe to say I am a bonafide expert when it comes to pubs, apart from the Irish most countries just cant replicate a pub, or so I thought.

Clearly the British and Irish public bars are in actual fact mere replicas of this ancient Tavern dating back to 1465. Its friendly ancient and down to earth with a true bohemian feel, we loved the place.

Review wise what to say, you can drink low price vino or you can drink very expensive wines, they have it all. Its the closest thing on the planet to an old world Tavern and for anyone who likes an atmosphere and maybe to possibly imbibe then this should be your pilgrimage.

Better still the food should always be excellent because you bring it with you, the idea is, you shop in the myriad of excellent food places around the Osteria and then bring it inside with you. All is aloud as long as you keep ordering drinks. Value wise its insanely low priced.

Top tip arrive early or you wont get a seat.

What more do I need to say!? Very relax and friendly place. There are mix of locals and tourists who have found it. It's a little hard to find though it's just right on the Vicolo Ranocchi, as there isn't really a sign outside. We only found it after peaking into it through a rather small door and saw a very tattled poster on side wall behind the door. Once you are inside you can see the bar where you buy the drinks from, and you find yourself a seat to enjoy the drinks and food if you have brought some from the mercado. Wonderful to see lots of local pensioners chilling with their mates and having a good chat.
