A lesser-known gem of Italian architecture. Sadly the square's Neptune fountain is currently under repair

We visited piazza maggiore when we visited Bologna for one day. It is very live center of Bologna with many shops and restaurants around. Next to the towers of Bologna

Fabulous place to sit on the steps and people watch and enjoy the street artists and theatre groups. Staggering views.

We had two nights here and the city center is full of atmosphere and joyful people. Also we had an experience with open cinema and the central square.

Of course if in Bologna one must visit the piazza. However there are selfish buskers at least one at any time, that play their musicial instruments with very loud recorded music. Very distribing for a place with so much to see and experience.
