Since 1999 offering Market-to-Table day class, half day classes, 3 night courses. As my classes are for very small numbers they fill up quickly and the first months to fill are April/May and September/October so plan ahead! I offer home cooking in a well air-conditioned home kitchen making updated, well plated, traditional Italian meals and my apartment is right in the heart of the historic city. Beginners, experienced cooks, professional chefs, families with children all welcome! I do my utmost to give you a memorable day and a great culinary experience and teach all the classes personally. And if you or your travelling partner/s don't fancy cooking, I offer a morning market food tour ending in a light lunch to introduce you to Bologna, its history and its food. And an unusual evening tour too, just email to ask!

A cozy home atmosphere, excellent & fresh ingredients from the local market and the magic of home-made tradition of Bologna. The food was a festival of senses, exquisite and sophisticated taste! Thank you, Carmelita!

I couldn't have put a price on this experience. From the start, Carmelita was a fantastic guide, providing us with information about Bologna's culinary scene and leading us through the streets to some of her favorite spots where we were able to try delicious cheeses, meats, breads, chocolates, and genuine balsamic vinegar. After a few hours learning about Bologna's food... More

What an outstanding insight to the local's way of life & their cuisine. Great time touring market & chatting with all Carmelita's many market friends. Then an insightful & entertaining cooking session. All in all, a lot was learned while we had a lot of fun as well. Carmelita gets our strong recommendation.

What a fantastic day we had with Carmelita. We toured the local shops and learned which ones to go to and which ones to avoid! Then back to Carmelita's flat and the cooking lesson. We made some delicious dishes, learned plenty of top tips and enjoyed the fruits of our labour with some lovely wine. Carmelita is charming, knowledgeable and... More

Carmelita starts the day with a thoroughly enjoyable tour of Bologna's market area from which, not only did we get to taste various foods, but we learnt what to look for and what to avoid shopping for Italian food both in the market and back at home. So much to learn! From there we went on to try out the... More

Our day started with leisurely shopping in small open-air markets where Carmelita gave us a wealth of information about food - everything from fresh fruit and vegetables to pastas, meats and cheeses. After a couple of quick stops, first at a chocolatier, where they make their chocolates by hand, and then at a small meat shop where we sampled a... More

Today was the fourth time we have shared a day visiting the markets & cooking with Carmelita. Our last cooking class was over 5 years ago and much has changed in the Bologna food scene but Carmelita still offers a personalised hands on class in her comfortable, central apartment. As always we left extremely satisfied having gained practical advice and... More

A friend and I attended the short class with Carmelita, and had a fantastic time. Though the pasta making was quite tricky (I wish I had had a bit of experience), eventually we got the hang of it and made a wonderful meal. Had we had more people it would've been easier to handle all of the tasks on time... More

It was a joy to spend time with Carmelita and to have her sharing her love of Italy and its food with us. The time really was a special part of our holiday- and the photos have produced envious responses from various friends. The dishes we prepared with Carmelita were authentic and delicious. Very highly recommended.

The highlight of my visit to Bologna was marketing and cooking with Carmelita of Cook Italy. We were 2 couples who decided to indulge, two cooks, two not, but everyone prepared the meal together. We met at 9:30am at the Centrale del Gusto café inside the former covered market, Mercato di Mezzo for an espresso and to review the menu.... More
