The oratory of saint Joseph is one of the most beautiful and ancient monuments of Urbino. It is composed by a church builted in the 18th century with a lot of frescoes, some paintings and a colossal statue of saint Joseph. There are also a sacristy with a beautiful wooden wardrobe, a little chapel called "dello sposalizio" and a room with a crib in full size made by the artist Federico Brandani in the 16th century, the only original crib in this size in the world.

Amazing sculptural nativity scene by Brandani (1545-50) which is set in a cave-like chapel to recreate the atmosphere of the nativity. The sacristy has some interesting portraits including one billed 'James the Third' of James Stuart ( the 'Old Pretender'). I hadn't realised he had...More

The visit to this small Oratorio is definitely recommended.Eeven if there is a Church annexed to the visit, which is nice, the big star is the Nativity, an impressive real size sculpture covering the whole room that will impress you: really amazing.

Just some steps from the other Oratorio another great attraction. Not only the sculptures, but the paintings are first class. It is also a must see issue.

This is a fascinating church in Urbino, Italy, that is well worth a visit, especially to see the sculptures and wall paintings.
