We were in Urbino for the day, and had completed our tour of the Ducal Palace. We went to the Oratorio on the way out of town, and delighted in the narrow stone staircase of a street required to get there. The Oratorio is old, with a wonderful history, and the frescoes are amazing. Many thanks for having an English... More

The frescoes by the Salimbeni brothers of the Crucifixion and the life of John the Baptist have great charm and character. Notwithstanding the solemnity of the religious episodes and themes portrayed, they convey a wonderful sense of early fifteenth century life through their detailed observations of ordinary people. Wherever you look, you will find interesting details - children fighting, dogs... More

This oratory has a beautiful fresco cycle (1416) by the brothers Lorenzo and Jacopo Salimbeni, with a Madonna, a Crucifixion, and scenes from the life of John the Baptist. The information is good and it is quiet and tranquil. Slightly out of the way but well worth finding. Make sure you also visit the nearby San Guiseppe oratorio - the... More

Lovely to see. There are 2 Oratorios at the top of the hill. One has a magnificent semi restored fresco and the other is in better repair with a very strange nativity that has to be seen.

Please do not judge this fabulous little church by its modern drab facade- inside you'll find the most vivid and fabulous frescos. The artists- the Salimbeni brothers- clearly also had a penchant for dogs- as there's a dog in nearly every scene........ we thought that was nice and quirky.

This was for me THE most beautiful thing to see in Urbino. These frescoes are so vivid, colorful and very detailled. It is small and a bit out of the way but certainly a must.

The Oratorio is a beautiful of a building entirely frescoed with really high quality fourteenth century work by the Salimbeni brothers. It is also a meeting place for the Urbino Rotary club!

This is an impressive "Oratorio" with amazing frescoes. It is definitely worthy a visit. The frescoes provide a beautiful and very interesting picture, full of meanings. It is recommended a guided visit (preferably not very synthetic) or to carry a paper guide. The guard/officer of the museum is extremely competent and he is also happy to answer questions.

I heard of this through the owner of the B&B where I stayed. What luck! It's an amazing place for anyone who enjoys early frescoes, created here by two brothers, Lorenzo and Jacopo Saltimbeni between 1415-18. The works are in amazing condition, bright and full of interesting details. The small chapel in which they cover practically the entire interior is... More
