This was the highlight of our walking tour of the Centro Storico and well worth a visit as the 2 floors under the existing nave have wonderful mosaics on display.

The roman facade of the church already let you guess, that this is a very old church. The main attraction are the mosaics, which you can admire through glass "windows on the floor. According to the information we got, there are two mosaic floors, on the top of the first, there is a second one two. The cathedral itself is... More

The Cattedrale di Pesaro is in the centro storico in a lovely redbrick but quite plain building from the outside. Inside however it sets itself apart: lofty and light, stunning ceiling paintings and stuccoed ceilings but merges the historical building with modern wooden benches - many attributed to local families. But what is most interesting is the amazing mosaic floor... More

Some place in Italy, hide something that you must discover. In Pesaro, Santa Maria Assunta Cathedral, hide beautiful mosaics under its floor, that you might not see if looking up to the cealing (as in most churches). Also Pesaro Cathedral hosts the remains of S. Terenzio: Pesaro patron saint.

An old cathedral--like all the others in Italy ;-) In the old town, a must to visit. There are masses at regular times, try to go there at that time, but respect the manners for locals. Not too nozy or noicy, shoulders covered etc. Not touristic clothing

Nothing to dislike particularly but not as imposing as I had imagined it would be. Liked however, the fact that the imposing murals were well described with good signage.

Not very historic and worth a few minutes only if you have time to spare. Effectively 19th century and not so interestig.

It may sound strange, but the best thing about this cathedral is the floor. Beneath the marble tiles there are the remnants of a Roman floor done with exquisite mosaics. You can see these mosaics, if illuminated, through the plexiglass openings occasionally scattered around the floor. Otherwise, the cathedral has few charms that are not generic, or can be seen... The multi-layered history of this cathedral makes it a very interesting place to visit. We learned through our audio guide (available at the store next to the visitor's centre) that this church had its beginnings in the first century before the common era. The ceramics are impressive as are some of the art works
